Default Thinking of making my own exhaust system...

I love how my car sounds, don't get me wrong. I currently have Kook's LT's, an catless X-pipe, and a Corsa Indy catback. Oh, and a stroked LS6 with a healthy cam. Sounds super mean.

But I liked how my old Camaro sounded better. My Camaro had a heads/cam LS1, stainlessworks LT's, an H-pipe, and flowmaster mufflers dumped before the rear axle. It sounded so mean it was unreal. They were 3 chamber flowmasters so it wasn't super loud, but with the turndown tips I got really good bass resonance off the street.

I want my Corvette to sound the same now. I'm thinking of pulling the Corsa off and making new pipes that go over the axle, and putting these in the same spot as the current mufflers.

Those are the same ones I had on my Camaro. I'm not sure how to route the exhaust out. I want it to be turned down for that wonderful resonance off the street, but then what do I do about the opening in the back? I think it might look strange without tips. Thoughts?

Lots of work and you may not get the same sound as the engines are different.

No, the engines are the same. The Vette has more displacement, but its still an LS motor. It's kind of funny.. I did some mods to put fuel rail covers on my Camaro...

And then did lots of mods to remove them from my Vette. Go figure!

I think the things that will affect it most is the length of pipe from the collector to the inlet of the muffler, and how the outlet of the muffler is directed.

Not much room to work with under the Vette. I had a friend of mine who owns a muff shop fab up my system. Headers, 3" hi-flo cats, 3" X pipe, 3" Dynomax straight thru muffs(they are less than 6" OD and fit up in the drive train tunnel). This allowed us to run the 3" tail pipes fairly easy out the back. You could turn them down right after the axles.

No, I'm not trying to put the mufflers under the car, I'm very well aware that they wont fit. I would put them in the stock location and then dump them down at the street. I'm trying to figure out what I would do with the exhaust opening in the middle, as it would look dumb with nothing there.

You could hang four pairs of TruckNutz there.

Or you could just leave the external tips for show and weld in your turn-downs further up the line. Maybe right by the muffler exit.

That would look odd with 8 total nuts, I better stick with two so I don't offset the balance

Just as some have made diffusers, I’m thinking a molded in place fiberglass blanking plate would be pretty easy to fab. Don’t think it would be worth making a mold - just not enough demand - but a couple of coats of Part-All #2 and some plastic sign material as a caul and you could lay it up on a weekend.

I think most of the sound you had on the Camaro was because you had the h-pipe instead of an x-pipe. I personally like the sound of an h over an x. Pop your old h-pipe in there if you still have it and see if you like it.

I'm in the process of doing a custom set up very similar to your Camaro. It's gonna be Texas Speed long tubes into a modded stock h-pipe and borla mufflers. It's gonna be a catless system but you could add hi-flow cats if you wanted.

Here is the h-pipe mod I'm doing:
