C5 LS1-Weird (.150" wide)oil seal wear pattern
Bought a 2000 and put a used Procharger on it. The on line manual didn't say anything about the relief hose. It started dripping oil. We added the breather hose. We pulled the harmonic balancer and it had a deep oil seal groove wear pattern about .150" wide with grooves. We replaced it and the timing chain (the old one was badly stretched) and seal etc.. Now I'm second guessing the cause of the wear. We probably only drove the s/c 500 miles so it's hard to believe it caused the wear. Hard to imagine that the crank thrust bearings have that much wear and hasn't blown under full power (7psi boost). Anyone got any experience/advice? Thanks-Randy

Looks typical. The seal surface is not a hardened surface like you might be used to on old school engines. They sell sleeves to repair this for some engines but the harmonic damper on the LS1 is so crappy its not worth messing with...

Wow--You guys are good!
The picture is exactly the problem! I put in a Summit SFI approved balancer. I hated to add 4lbs. but I like good parts. So I guess I'm OK?
