I'm sure you could get by a few days without, but there is guy on ebay who does exchange them.

Do a search for "hvac display" its an easy fix, just re-solder about 8 resisters. I did mine and my friends also.

Where are you located? I have a guy in Racine, WI who I send all my work to. He does fantastic jobs and warranties it. He can do it while-you-wait and pull it from the car and everything if you ask nice.

Do it! I did today and have never seen the display as bright as it is now! Not hard at all. If anyone was to go through the steps to remove it for shipping to someone and have it on the table to package up, you might as well remove two more sets of 4 screws and fix the thing yourself. Could not imagine paying someone to do it.
