Anyone in Omaha with this issue, help me, help you. I have the same issue, if you have an HVAC issue like this I have a shop with solder irons in West Omaha. Send me a PM and you can bring in your unit removed and I'll reflow them for you.

Did mine today too, and hooked back up and works great. Not the best soldering job either and still worked. took 38 min start to finish.
It was unreadable before, now it's same brightness as the radio.
Great thread - great Forum members.

Does anyone know if there is a similar fix for the radio? After I fixed the HVAC display, the radio does not seem very bright in comparison.
Thanks,
Eric

I used the same bulbs in the radio. RadioShack part #272-1154 and it all works great.
I had had burnt out bulbs in both

Yea... I made a note on my web site about the older board that is out there. I did not have a picture of one to put on my site. The same 241 resistors are on the older board as well. They are just in different locations.

Mine faded and then quit. Its been that way for a LONG TIME. I had the center console out for a wide band install and figured,, I will take it to work and fix it.
40 min,, I found two loose resistors on one end and \ soldered ALL the redistors and BINGO! FIXED!!
Feels great to do it yourself and see the results.. If yours is dim or dead,, GET CRACKEN

It was a quick fix.
Last night was the first time the lights were on and most of the backlighting is out. During the repair all the buttons fell out. I put them all back in. Maybe I broke one of the circuits.
Any thoughts?

Nice write up except you only show the board design for the later HVAC units. Hope I did not overlook something. Here is a link that shows where the resistors are for the earlier version. You might want to copy those into yours or provide this link. Mr. Sam
