Default C5 Z06 Rear Differential / Transmission

I am planning to change the Transmission and Differential Fluid on my 2002 Z06. According to the Owners Manual, I should be using Dexron III Automatic Transmission Fluid for the M12 Manual Transmission and SAE 75W-90 Synthetic Axle Lubricant (GM 12378261) Plus 4oz of limited slip additive (GM 1052358) for the Rear Differential.

I want to put the GM recommended fluids in my Z, the problem is that GM does not offer these fluids anymore

I have done a bit of research and have come to the conclusion that even though Dexron VI is supposed to be backwards compatable, I dont think its correct for my manual 6 speed M12 transmission

I am leaning towards using Manual Transmission and Transfer case oil (GM 88861800) for the transmission and Drexon LS Gear Oil 75W-90 (GM 88862624) for the Differential.

Before I make the fluid purchase, can you guys confirm I am getting the correct fluids for my Car. I want to do it right the first time with the correct GM fluids.

If anyone has recently changed their fluids with the correct GM Fluids, please chime in and let me know how they are working for you. I know there are many choices out there for oil, each one with there own set of tests and standards that say there oil is better than the next guys. My feeling on the subject is that if GM engineers (who I can assume are smarter than me by the way), recommend a specific fluid, then that's the fluid I want to run

I had a brand new trans installed at a Corvette shop. I bought the new GM stuff and my mechanic would not use it. He said nothing but Royal Purple Scynomax.

I understand if you were to ask several mechanics, there would porobably be several different answers. There are hundreds of threads about what is the best Fluid. Everyone has an opinion and I can respect each of their own. However, I have chosen to use the GM Fluids and just want confirmation, that I am using the correct ones.

I do not street race or track my car. I seriously doubt the GM fluids are sub-par and will have any ill effect on my Trans or Diff. I am more inclined to believe the GM fluids will have the correct additives/modifiers/specifications that my Trans/Diff require unlike other brands of oil which are made to be used in a variety of applications...... Just my 2 cents

I have been a GM tech for over 20 years. I have always recommended GM fluid unless the car is used more for racing than street use.

The 88862624 for the diff and 88861800 for trans is right on. That is what I recommend for all my transmissions and differentials.

Hello,

for the differential, on the bottle it is written that the limited slip friction modifier is already mixed with the oil.
Does someone can confirm that it is not necessary to add the additive fluid ?
Thanks

If you're using 88862624, you do NOT need to add friction modifier.

Part number supersession chain:
12378261-->89021677-->88900401
1052358-->88900330

Both still available.
