rattling coming from front of tranny housing
ok...had my throwout bearing replaced bc of a marbles-in-a-can noise(went away when you push in clutch)...but it didnt help....the noise is pin-pointed to the front of the tranny where the dome-shaped end goes into the torque tube.
my question: what is in there that would be just like a throwout-bearing problem but is in the front part of the tranny (dome shaped part)?
thanks for the help guys...she just hit 215k

The tranny is in the rear of the car, directly bolted to the differential. If you are thinking of the bell housing attached to the rear of the engine, could be any number of things. Torque tube bushing bolt come out, clutch bolt out and flying around and so on. There is an inspection plate there that will let you "see" in there to a small degree.

Idk if this is as extreme of a sound that I was getting but my rear diff gears went out and made a vibration up through to the shifter and I thought that it was my tranny at first so i got that rebuilt along with the ttube while i was in there, turns out that it was the diff so i got that replaced and fixed it right up it turned out to be a lot of unnecessary work at the time but my car had 150k miles on it so I figured it didn't hurt. best of luck

i dont know if it was inspected or not then. but 30k later im having to do it now....a good lesson learned, if you take out the tranny, do your torque tube!!!
