Default What kind of headers would you put on a Z06?

I need recommendations on headers. I know there are alot more LT's available now than when I had my coupe. I don't plan on adding a head/cam package. I would like to see decent gains but don't want to spend a fortune.

Any recommendations and advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

FLP's all the way. By far the nicest looking and sure to be a great performer. They make the FINEST headers for F-body's. FLP's all the way if I were you and if I had to do over again!

Rick, I think the FLP's might be the best value, but check out LG's header . It might seem pricey but a real merge collector is worth it in my estimation. I have been very happy with the FLP's on my T/A but now that I have moved up in power , I decided on a stepped header and expensive slip on merge collector. Give Lou a call and talk with him and I will help you put them on if you would like

FLP, and leave the cats off!!!!!!! If you do nothing else you will think your'e driving a race car (sounds very mean :smash: ). Performance on mine without heads and cam seemed noticable.

I just took an order for 3 sets of our 409Stainless Steel LG Long tubes from Katech.
After considering every header available, Katech picked our LG Long Tubes with the Merge Collector. If anyone knows what they are doing in the LS 1/6 engine department, it would be them.

The only exception would be if you are going to "spray a 300 shot, then you might need something bigger.

You will be in good company with our Stainless Steel Long Tubes.

The choice of the pros.

Available as a complete package, with interchangable Random Cats/off road pipes, or as the off road package, without cats. And 409 stainless steel never rusts!

Thanks,

Lou Gigliotti http://www.lgmotorsports.com

I would get the LG's if money was not object. I just couldn't justify the price, unless I was going to do heads and cam or something like that. I con'd take the $800-$1200 difference and get gears or something.

I got the Belangers for my 02' Z06 because I got them used for a good deal. I would have bought them new if I didn't get them used for a good deal. I think they are the 2nd best headers on the market. I did a lot of research on them and i think a lot of people didn't buy them because of the price not the preformance.

I wouldn't get the TPIS because of the quality. You get what you pay for. If they contilne to have problems you might as well have bought a better quality header. Installing on these are not very good also.

The TTS are to small for the Z. The Z makes all its power up top, it needs to breath. I think they would not make as much power as the Belanger as you continue to bolt on.

The SLP's look good but, you don't buy headers for looks, do you :nono: . And there is still a question mark about there long term quality also. Someone one the forum already install them and said he couldn't tell the difference.

BPP step headers seem like a good idea, but I spoke to a friend of mine who has a set and he said he couldn't even feel the difference and was very diapointed.

I just got my LGM headers yesterday, their quality is much better than TPIS which I already have in my car. It is a very complete system, & I also chose to have a coated set. Iam gonna have a 422 motor soon & these headers are a must for such setup.
If you plan to keep your engine stock, then you'll probably be happy with TTS or Belanger headers. However, if you plan on modifying the engine, even with just a camshaft change, then I would say save yourself the trouble & get LGM headers. They are stainless steel & you won't have to worry about rust & also due to their superior quality they are going to last a long time.

Rick, If it were me I would get the Lg's, period. All you need to do is see the workmanship, quality and the sound out the pipes and you will want a pair instantly. If you are by COH today stop by, my coupe is there having some maintenance done.Ask Paul to let you see mine and listen again to how they sound. You will order them soon after.

GoodLuck,

Jerry

Rick, IMO it's pretty simple. If you want to spend the money, get the LG's. If you don't, get the Belangers (which would allow you to keep your stock CATS). IMO, if you don't do any engine work, or have no plans to, I might would think about a set of B&B shorties.

I agree with what is being said for the most part.

If money is not a deciding factor, go with LGs headers.
We are using Lou's headers for the two 427s we are installing this month, so we do use, install and recommend them.

We like the Belangers also. The fit, finish and construction is top of the line. Tri-y design.

TPIS is great for the money and we sell them as well. But, we have had a few minor problems with them in the past. It looks like they have fixed the issues with cracking air tubes. So far, so good.

TTS uses smaller primaries than the other brands mentioned and I personally think they are too small. Construction is great but the install is not so great.

BPP has come out with a step header and we are dealers for BPP. But, we have not had a chance to sell or install their header yet. I have heard good things though.

Thanks and the above are only personal opinions...

GraveDigger,

I have the similar straight pipes as yours. Instead of paying $120 for the off road x-pipe and another $90 for the install, I paid a muffer shop $100 and they removed cats and welded two straight pipes in there. :D

Man...it is loud, VERY LOUD. I think I'm going to replace stock H-pipe with a regular x-pipe, and hopefully that will lower the noise level a bit.

I can't wait to get it on the dyno. My buddy picked up approximately
~15rwhp/tq down low.

Lou, If you could summarize the difference between your product and FLP's in a sentence or two, it would help several of us on the fence. thanks.

Default Re: What kind of headers would you put on a Z06? (gbm)

I on't want this to turn into an argument. I will lay out the difference in an impartial way.
LG Long Tubes... Verses...FLP

Materials: LG Long tubes, are made of 304 aircraft quality Stainless Steel (304 will Never rust)-- verses-- coated mild steel, (can chip and rust) on FLPs.

Cats; LGs have Random full 3 " High flow cats that interchange with 3" off road pipes All stainless steel, including "V" band clamps;-- Verses-- 2 1/2" cats and 2 1/2" off road pipes, all mild steel, including "V" band clamp flanges on the FLP.

Length of primary tubes; LGs have 1 3/4" X 32" primaries; --Verses--
1 3/4" X 20"

LG SS headers come with state of the art stainless steel "Merge Collectors", --Verses-- standard production stamped mild steel collector on FLP.

LG headers have an optional "X" pipe, --verses-- FLP standard "X" pipe.

LG headers can be bought with or without cats, for off road use;-- Verses-- FLP cannot be bought separate.

LG headers are TIG welded (Tungsten/inert gas) --verses-- Wire feed Mig welded FLP

Pricing as of today,
LG full Stainless steel long tube package $1998.
FLP mild steel coated package $1599.

The differences are clear. It comes down to what you want on your C5.

Both are good systems, But they are profoundly different. There are plenty of mid length headers out there, but only one "True Long Tube" and that is the 32" LG Stainless Long Tubes

These are Facts, and not intended to make anyone angry.

But I could always make mine out of Coated Mild steel, put an average collector on them, and neck down my Cats to 2 1/2", but I don't think that that would improve them.

Thanks, I hope this helps in making your decision, whatever it is.
