Under the right side of the dash, you have to pull the closeout panel. The case is hot, so best to disconnect the battery first. Pretty sure it's a seal bearing, so lube may not be an option.

Remove dead mice and re-install.

Dead mice is the usual cause of noise unless its a bearing squeal and in that case, if you are really careful, you can use a very small drill bit, boring a tiny hole into the lower bearing cover. Lubricate it, then seal it up with a spot of RTV or similar.

We had a mouse nest in ours. The clue is the fan makes a rumbling noise at high speed and there is no air flow. Pulling the fan is not all that hard, in above the passenger footwell. pull out the trash and the dead momma mouse and all will work great.

The fan is fairly easy to remove. Disconnect it, pop off the rubber cooling tube on the motor and unbolt it.

YEP, mice LOVE the fan!!

They DO NOT like spinning around at 1740 RPM!

Once the fan is out, you can add oil to the lower bearing thru the hole where the cooling duct mounts to the motor housing. Its a bronze bearing and just needs a bit of oil.

When I turn on the fan to the heater and ac unit it make a terrible noise like a grinding, it goes away for a bit then comes back, I’m looking under the passenger side of the dash but can’t seem to get the motor unit out? Any ideas. 1986 C4

LMAO,, Those were the pictures I took of my mouse infestation. I surprised the little bastard. I jumped right in stuck the key in and started the engine. The HVAC fan was on HIGH. The dash shook like crazy, dust came out. Holy ****!! At first I thought something was horribly wrong with the engine. Once I composed and turned the key off, as the HVAC fan spun down I heard a faint clicking noise that slowed down with fan speed. It was his little feet sticking out of the squirrel cage fan blades. Yep, he didn't appreciate HIGH Fan speed. I bet ya he wont do that again!!

Yikes, lol.
I wonder if everytime you turned on the fan you were actually getting some mouse dander in the air as well, double yikes.
He had his own little supercharged hamster wheel, weeeee!
