Default C5 Climate Control dim/dark display and no illumination, help

I imagine this has been addressed, and I found a thread for the display remedy. But now I need to know how to fix the illumination for the buttons.

I haven't actually tried this unit out, but it is going to replace my current one and I just want to do the "fixes" now and prevent any issues later.

I will then fix the one I remove and keep it as a spare or sell it to a member in need.

Thanks guys

You need to replace all 14 bulbs at once, use 7219 bulbs. You can get them from Radio Shack or numerous Online sites.

Thanks for the info

Hey, if thats the case, can they be replaced with LED lights? That'd be neat.

For the OP, Tim knows already all too well, the LED's are polarized as such and can only go in one direction, along with their associated resistors. Too many people think an LED is just another lamp when it is not.

Why would all 14 bulbs fail at the same time?? I'm wondering if there is a dimming signal line not working right or the lamp power supply has 'bought the farm'...

L.E.D. = light emitting diode

I gots me uh colledge edgyouktion!

I picked up some bulbs from Radioshack last night. Was gonna do LED's but they were about twice as much and I don't really care that much about using them. However, it would be neat to have blue LED's lighting up the buttons.

I don't know if this unit has all the bulbs out or not, I'm just doing all the repairs to a secondary unit that will replace my original one. I don't want to have my car torn down for too long, so I always buy a second part to replace the original. Then I always have a spare too.

I wondered the same thing too. After fixing the dimming display, when I reinstalled the control I noticed about 4 or 5 lights were out. I pulled the unit back out and replaced them. Sure enough, as soon as I put the control back in again, more lights were out. This time, I just replaced all the rest of the bulbs. I've had no problems since.

Hey, when you re-installed the unit, did all the selections work properly? Meaning, would it switch from dash, to lower, to window?

I reinstalled mine tonight and it blows air out of all locations.

I haven't actually started the car because it is loud and midnight right now. I'm hoping that it will work once I get driving. Dunno why it wouldn't work though.

If you can't change between modes at all, that usually indicates a main vaccume problem. You didn't remove your intake lately did you? Check to see if your battery had leaked and ate some wiring/vaccume lines under it...

You might have to check for codes in the hvac and clear them.

When installing my radio, I had the air going to keep some fresh air circulating now and then. I noticed it blowing out of all vents after a little while too. I started the car up, and it replenished the vacuum and the selector worked again.

I'd try starting your car up first and let it run a minute or two then try the selector settings again

Ah ha!

I had a feeling it would be something like that. Yup, worked just fine on the way to work this morning.

Thanks everyone for the help, have a Merry Christmas!!!

Look in the tech section. I removed the Climate Control unit and had to solder some electrical diodes back onto the board. I just used a hot knife I had gotten at Home Depot to heat up the solder. That was 9 months ago and the lights have been bright ever since.
