Which vette to buy a 03,04,05,06,08
I will be in a market for newer vette in the next 6-9 months, so many to pick from, primary use will be street cruiser and drag raceing preferably auto. Which out of the above mentioned years and why? Pros and cons for all the years in question, better engine? better transmisions? better rear diferentials?
I can find low mile 03s and 04s for 20,000 and less tons of go fast parts for them too, but allready outdated body soon to be 2 generations old in a year and a half!!!
I can find 05s for under 24-25 thousand but what about that 1 year only bastard transmisions, will that pose problems for parts down the road, The ls2 motor is a little of a bastard too being only 3 years production, what kind of future for hop up parts for those years
I can find 06s for under 26 thousands 6 speed auto ??? what are these going to be like drag racing them??? same 3 year only LS2 motor??? on hopup in the future
The 08s are 28,000 on up ls3 motor wil have at least 5 years in production plus offered in the camaro also, should have lots of parts available but 6 speed trans question mark, and by far the most money
Then there is 1 more alternative a 03/04 Z06 and convert to auto setup rolling around my mind???
There is pros and cons in every year, which year would you guys buy and why

I don't want this to sound too harsh, but I've just got to ask---- You're a senior member on this forum, have attended 2 cruise-ins, have been a member for 10 years and your ASKING US WHICH VETTE TO BUY? This blows my mind!

I am open to everybodys opinion Just because ive been to 2 cruise-ins,and a member for 10 years, built numerous c4 to run in the 10s still dont mean i know everything! And for that matter i know nothing about c-5 or c-6 so that is why i ask the questions in both tech sections!! Not to mention spending between 20 to 30 thousand dollars is a lot of money for me too!!! and just want to make the right choice

I have an 04 Z06 and rode in an 08 with the paddle shifter. For fun at the strip I would get the paddle shifter and have the tranny tuned. You just can not shift manuals like that. The 08 LS3 motor is really nice!

just my opinion i would look for a c5 zo6 they are lighter than a c6 and look way better im not a big fan of the c6 i think the c5 looks better but thats just my opinion and why do you want an auto? 6 speeds are just way more fun

I personally think the interior of the C5 is above and beyond the C6. The radio and hvac of the C6 looks like chevy spent about 5 bucks on developing it. Now the c6 with nav is nice looking, if you can afford....which I can't! And of course Chevy eliminated the ability to view codes on the DIC with the C6.

my personal opinion, I like the looks of the c6, just due to the fact that it's smaller in comparison to the c5. the c5 has a timeless look to it, just don't like all the little gremlins that pops up now and then

02+ C5 of your choice. Drive a well nice C5 (not hammered) then drive a C6. I personally like the C5 better then the C6 base (C6 Z06 is another story). If you want an auto find a stock un-molested car... LS1, LS2, LS3, LS6 are all good engines. all close in power LS6 is slightly more power but only avalible with a 6spd MT and all about the same in reliablilty (simmilar physically and mechanically, different bore, heads and what not...).

I can't say whats right for you, but here are some things to consider.
If your sig. is an indicator, I wouldn't pay for a warranty. If you can leave it stock and enjoy the warranty then I would.
The suspension and drivetrain on these are pretty universal. I have an LS7 motor in my C5. If you plan to mod and drag race frequently I'd purchase older and use the savings on the drivetrain. Unlike most cars many Vettes are people's dream car, and even older ones are often low mileage and well cared for.
The C5 has depreciated considerably already. The C6 will take a huge hit when the C7 comes out, and then it won't be "the new one".
Luckily you only have great options, so you can't go wrong. Good luck finding the one that suits you best.
