Default Why the stock H pipe or aftermarket X pipe?

Probably a stupid question, but back in the day, dual exhaust came out of the headers, pipe to the rear and some turbos or glaspacks installed. Why does the Vette (or other cars?) have the 2 pipes come together at all? Is it just for the sound?

the h-pipe gives the exhaust a bit of a gurgle on decel for sound. it also evens the pressures between each pipe. not sure if that helps flow at all though.

The stock "h-pipe" on a C5 isn't really a true crossover.

The hole in the center of that big crossover is no bigger than the diameter of your pinky finger. It's nothing.

If it's not a "true crossover" then what is it?

I've read a lot about the H-pipe and X-pipe, I agree the the h pipe is not the most efficient, however my biggest issue has been the "motorboat sound" at idle. I have a 2004 A4 with a Corsa Pace Car Cat Back, I just ordered the Borla stainless x pipe and am very excited to get it installed and hear the difference!!!

The factory h is basically a big welded part that conveniently keeps both halves of the exhaust packaged together and easier for car assembly.
I wouldn't be surprised if the minor holes are just alignment points for the cnc welders..

The motorboat sound will be gone and the WOT scream will also be gone.

After a quick install, the motorboat sound at idle is gone, it is somewhat quiet at idle after warm-up. But the WOT sound in my opinion is still there, I have an automatic, and it sounds great to me, plus i think I feel a little more response now.... am I imagining it???

I am satisfied, I think that's the best thing!!!!

I have the same setup and i was .2 faster in the 1/4 after the x pipe

however the x pipe took away the very loud wot scream on my a4 that was there before it.
