Default Cam choice.... TR227/227 XTR or TR227/224

Alright, here's what I've got.
'99 C5 with:
A4 with 2400 stall converter and transgo shiftkit
DTE 3.73s
blackwing air intake
TTS Longtubes, random high flow cats, and Borla Stinger exhaust.
243 heads (soon to be installed when cam is)
LS6 Intake (also at same time as cam)

I do have to pass emissions, although not a sniffer test. I'd like to keep the car very drivable and easy to get along with on long trips, or stuck in traffic, along with trips to the strip and autocross.

Which cam would be better for my setup and plans for an all around drivability with ~400rwhp?

Thanks,
Mike

With cam only that TR reverse split grind is legendary. Dont think twice, just get the 227/224.

I'm not that impressed with a stock set of 243 heads over the 241. I saw a write up a while ago, it may have been one of the guys from England Green. Those heads in stock form were only worth 10 horsepower over the 241's. A ported set of 243's by the right porter are another story.

After reading for months on a head choice. I finally went with a set of PRC stage 2.5 5.3's. My second choice would have been their stage 2.5 243's or trickflow fast as cast.

If money were not an issue I would have gone with AFR or Trickflows. The difference in price ($1000) was just too much.

I may not leave the heads stock. They will at a minimum get a 3 angle valve job and dual springs, but......, I may just go ahead and have them ported and polished too.

I'm not a fan of reverse split cams. Are there any other choices?

TR makes some of the best cams, both of those cams should give you great power under the curve and maintain good drive-ability with proper tuning. Most people shy away from reverse splits, because they don't give you a big peak number like traditional splits, but they do give you killer power under the curve. You should have a lot of hp/tq on the low end/midrange with either of those. Your stall is flashing right after those cams start to hit their power band, that with the 3.73s should be a fun setup!!
