Default beware...zzp 9mm ignition wires don't fit

beware...zzp 9mm ignition wires don't fit

When I saw these ignition wires by ZZ Performance I was quite excited since I was looking for a new set of wires for my vette.

The price on Ebay was right @ $45.00 a set + S & P.

ZZP 9mm Ignition Spark Plug Wires for LS1 LS2 LSx

They claim an extra 4 horsepower to the wheels compared to MSD wires and an extra 5.7 horsepower compared to the stock OEM wires.

Well I got them in the mail and they looked great.

Only problem was that they do not fit into the coil packs without some modification to either the coil pack by dremeling the opening where the wire enters the coil pack or re crimping the wires after trimming some of the silicone because they are way too thick.

Tried to call number on enclosed business card and all you get is an answering machine which instructs you to leave a message.

Left message around noon and 6 hours later still no call.

Was able to get to speak to a real person by trying random local extension and was advised that this techline does not support the product and my only recourse would be to email the E bay contact since it was a different division of the company.

Just wanted to warn anyone who has seen this product and was thinking about purchasing it.

Wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem or is it
just me?

well I am gonna give them another day to reply , but I may have been dupped...probally going to modify them since returning them would cost me $30.00 .(delivery and return)

wondering what remedy your friend did with the ones that didn't fit?

well I just got home and found that I recieved a reply to my query and it is as follows:

It's possible you received our 10mm instead of 9mm, do you have a means to check? can you email zooomer7@yahoo.com

- zzperformance_esales

I took out my caliper and measured the wires and "lo and behold" they measure 10.17 mm.

I have advised my findings.

I have advised in regards to my concerns with paying return postage and now I will wait to see how they want to deal with their error in shipping me the wrong product.

I will keep you advised as to how they resolve this matter.

How many CF members bought the TB spacer?

Sometimes you got to try, they were cheap and actually the materials used are very good just have the fitment issue.

I will let you know when I get this issue resolved.

GM did a very good job designing our ignition system. Its very difficult to get ANY HP improvements by spending money on wires, coils or plugs. If your wires are bad, new wires will only allow your engine to preform up to what the bad wires were causing it to loose.

The best set of wires for the buck that you can spend money on is the GM red performance wires. They don't make any more HP but the quality of the wire set is superior to most any after market wire and they don't cost an arm and a leg. The last time I checked gene Culley had them for around $60. They fit and perform very well.

Recieved reply from ZZP to advise:

We sent you 10mm wires, I apologize. You do not need to return them.
Please send your address and I'll ship you the correct set.

I am very relieved to have an apparent satifactory resolution made.

ZZP are champs!

When I get them I will try them out and see if their HP claims are true!

ive dealt with zzp prolly 60-70 times. They are great. They are HUGE in the grand prix community (3800 community) and have great customer service. Zoomer kicks people's asses too....seriously he's freakishly large.

Well, I am happy to hear that many others have had good experiences with this retailer as I have so far.

When I recieve the replacement wires and try them out I will let you all know the outcome of the performance claims.

As it stands... I am very pleased with the customer service and would not hesitate to buy from them again.

if u wanna see some serious 3800 performance check out their mid 8 second fwd grand prix. I think it was still using the stock shortblock (minus some arp bolts) while in the high 8's. It's still using the 4t65hd in it as well.

I wasn't aware they sold anything for vettes, i know there is a guy selling stuff on ebay though, not sure if he's truely affiliated with zzp or not. I'll ask zoom.

Sounds like another high performance hood seal to me. There is no way voltage losses in OEM wires in good condition are high enough compared to any other wire to cause horsepower loss. And the only experience I ever had with spark weakness and needing more punch was with a 13.5:1 race engine I built for a customer over 40 years ago. I put a magneto on the engine and fixed the issue.

That said, the LS engine series ignition system is more than sufficient for any mod that can be made and still driven on the street with readily available pump gas.
