Default HVAC keeps switching to outside air

I keep setting my HVAC to recirculate and it keeps switching itself back to outside air. Any fix?

It being winter I will guess you are trying to do this in defrost, I think defrost will demand outside air, it won't allow recirculation.

If you go to floor/defrost you can set it to recirculate and it will stay.

It happens in any mode. I currently have it set to floor and vent. It does require outside air in defrost which is stupid but at least it's blatent about that. In any other mode it will let me set it to recirculate then when I restart the car it sets it back.

I don't always notice till I get in traffic and start smelling some rich burning car ahead of me.

Ok, wait a minute. So everytime you restart the car, it goes back outside air. So what are the chances you have this setting in memory? Next time you set it, hit your memory button, and see if it captures.

The very second I read your initial post,,,I figured that you were having a memory setting issue. Good recommendations Mike!

Its a good time to set ALL your memory functions to your personal preferences.

-Radio station and radio volume
-HVAC settings
-Outside mirror settings
-Seat settings
-English /Metric
-HUD positions and screens

Remember! If you program an illogical setting, the memory will default to something it believes is logical: i.e. "AC set to on and the temp is below 32 deg. The AC will NOT function and the compressor on light will flash"

Good idea but I already thought of that and set the memory with it where I wanted it. This morning I start the car and it's back on outside air.

I've only had the car for 6,000 miles and it's done this from the beginning.

I just had the battery disconnected for a week while I did the clutch and it remembered all my settings except the clock. I was surprised about that. It apparently stores the settings in flash memory.

I've had to reset the vent mode too. I like it on floor and vent but it has gone to auto on me or switched to defrost on occasion.
