Default NGK TR-5 Spark plugs?

I will be installing a ECS big blower cam in the next couple weeks and on ECS's site they use the NGK TR-5 plugs. I will be going forced induction in the future, but right now I will be NA. Do I need to switch to these plugs or will the stock ones be fine? Can the NGK TR-5 plugs be used for NA? TIA.

A TR5 plug is hotter than stock. I would not use them. A TR55 or TR6 would be good in a cammed ls1. With a supercharger i would use a tr7 most likely depending on boost levels.

Ok, so with this ECS blower cam should I just stay with stock plugs or go with a TR55/TR6? If it makes any difference, this will be in a '01 Z06. I will not go supercharged until another year or so. Staying NA right now. I was going by what ECS has listed as to what is installed with a blower cam on their website.

TR55 plugs are the stock replacement NGK plugs. You will be fine with them untill you supercharge the car later.

TR5 and TR55 are the same (stock) heat range, and are stock replacement.

The second number denotes the gap modification.
TR5 is pre-gapped at .039"
TR55 comes gapped at .059"

Tr5s can only, tr6s when you put on the SC.

Good luck with the install! That can is nice with and without boost!

Is this info accurate ?

I had TR55 in the car, replaced them with TR6 and the car ran slightly hotter, and when I went to auto zone they gave me TR5.

Do I just make the gap on the TR5 larger ( .059) ?

I seemed to lose a little out of the hole with the TR6 smaller gap

Yes, that chart is accurate and directly from NGK.

I previously emailed NGK's Tech support about interchanging a TR5 vs. TR55 and they told me that the plugs are exactly the same with the exception of the gap as stated earlier by Y2Kvert4me.

TR5 and TR55 are the same (stock) heat range, and are stock replacement.

TR5 is pre-gapped at .039"
TR55 comes gapped at .059"

Your TR6 is gapped at .039 (out of the box) and is one heat-range cooler that a TR5.

I wouldn't see a problem gapping a TR5 to .059

Use this link and fill out NGK's Tech Support Contact Form and ask them your question.

http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/About_nGK/formtech.asp

They'll get back to you.

I would run a NGK BR6EF which is 1 step colder or a NGK BR7EF which is 2 step colder.
