My son got me a 2008 shifter and c-6 shift **** and the shifter linkage/stick. It looks like I need a different shift boot as well, because the old one isn't wide enough for the new one.

Does it have shorter throws? It does seem tighter, and the rubber bushing seems to snap it back into place for neutral, also the new **** seems ergonomically super.

Is this really worth the expense and hassle to change it?

Did mine a year ago. Had a little problem getting the alignment
right but nothing major. Ordered the boots from Redline and love the results.

I can't speak to a regular C6 shifter, but I recently installed a 2009 Z06 shifter from RSD, that was modified to accept a C5 ****. Hands down the best shifter I have had yet. Shift boot is a little bunched up, but fits fine.

I cut the stock boot a little bit and ziptied it on...

I like the way it feels in my hand, and the way it shifts.
IMO it looks so much better then the stock square ****...

I have had one since they first became available. I love it. I tried the Hurst and hated it. For the boot, I turned mine inside out and undid the upper double seam then push it down as far as possible on the shift **** and used an o-ring to hold it. Did three cars this way, they all came out well.

Put a 07 Z06 shifter from Gene in my 04 and love it, fits my hand better, a bit shorter throw and it's what I like. You can spend the bucks and get the correct leather from redline or ask on the forum the specifics on adapting the boot leather to save the mulah. btw, no one will notice the difference.

If it is a garage queen, I would say maybe. If you drive it, then absolutely YES!!!!!

Shorter throw, better shifts, and great shift **** (plus the price was right)

I installed mine about 6 months ago-it does exactly what it was supposed to do,and is that **** just about perfect,or what?
Feels,shifts,and looks about 5 times better than the stocker it replaced!

Worth every penny,and every minute of the thirty minutes it took to install

All shifters are purely subjective but 90% are better than the OEM C5. The C6 and C5 are manufactured identically with the exception of the canted C6 shifter arm. The C6 has approx 10% shorter throw. left to right ; the old C5 Hurts w/ C5/C6 shifter box. C6 shifter arm asembly on a C5/C6 shift box. The OEM C5 shifter arm assy.


With that said , I have installed six (6) C6Z06 shifter assemblies into FRCes or Z06es in the last two years. You can modify the C5 boot around the neck to make it work or there are several aftermarket boots that can be purchased for this application . I use Redline products boots.


The C6 with Z06 shifter box (shifter boxes are identical to C6 &C5 to the C5Z06 & C6Z06 shifter box with the exception of the two horizonal slotted mount bushings. The C5 & C6 use rubber and Z06 use a solid plastic at has a slightly firmer feel but also transfers more vibration.)


Personally on my Z06 I have swapped the C6Z06 shifter assembly for a more percise C6 Hurst (3915086) that is modified with a two inch shifter arm increase, lighter bias tension springs and a Anti-Venom bolt (shorter than OEM by .062). These mods increased the precision feel and decreased the effort while noticably reducing that notchy feel that most shorter throw (35%) traditionally have
