Fuel Pump Sending Unit Wiring Questions (Inside Tank)
Im installing a custom fuel system that requires we run new wires into the tank. We've got that part all sorted out, but I ran into a problem.
There are 4 wires inside the tank. 1 red, 1 blk, 1 Dark Blue, and 1 Kinda Tan.
Now I know the red and blk are for the pump, and the blue & tan are for the float sensor, but I cant find anywhere where it tells you which of the blue/tan is positive, and which is negative. (drivers side tank)
I asked a friend of mine, and he said it didnt matter, but according to the service manual, there is clearly a + and -.
Does anyone have any literature that tells them which one is which? I know what it says for the exterior plug, but this is INSIDE the tank.
The car is a 2000, but any 99-02 would work.

According to the schematics im looking at in my service manual, the dark blue wire is the 5V reference, and the tan/grey looking wire is ground. Can anyone confirm? I suck at wiring schematics.

Yes, that is correct. Didn't know there was a Late and Early '02, so I just looked at '01, and it shows the same. So, in my opinion, acording to the schematic, the Fuel Sender for the Left Side is a single varible resistor, neither side grounded, so it would not make any difference which way the two wires are hooked up. Jeff, always use my opinions at your own risk! If you want to verify the schematic is correct, check each terminal of the sender resistor to ground with an Ohm Meter. Should get no reading from either terminal. HTH

I'm bringing this post back from the dead.
Can anybody confirm that the 2 wires going to the fuel level float can be interchanged? I have a wiring harness for 2 fuel pumps on a 2001. - the pumps are wired and good to go, but now I have 2 wires left that go to the fuel float mechanism and I don't know if it matters which wire goes where.

Hey buddy! Long time no talk.
You're reading it right, but my concern is that Ive read many other threads that make it sound more complicated than "it doesnt matter"..if you know what I mean. Just hoping to have somebody confirm by either experience or electrical studliness.
