Default whine from under car

I have a 2002 z06 and noticed a really high pitch whine while driving it is only noticible when i hit the gas when i let off it goes away. I recently got the read diff flushed and refilled that was not the cause. Any ideas I have posted this a few times and some said power steering others said rear end and its neither. once again it only does it when i press the gas just like a high pitched whine. Thanks

Even tho you change the fluid it still could be the rear end, mine does it but its VERY faint and only I can hear it.

If the whine only started after recently changing out the rear fluid, I would think that you know your answer.(Rear fluid related). Good luck.

I had that same thing happen, I'd hit the gas and she'd start whining, so I divorced her!

Really, it sound's like your losing a pinion bearing in the diff.
Or possibly the gear set, get it checked out and fixed fast cause it won't get any cheaper!

Hackmann,

On a more serious side, your description doesn’t help much. Can you tell if it is coming from the front, back or middle of the car? Does the whine track engine speed, meaning does the pitch of the whine go up with an increase of engine speed?

Whine noise that can be switched on or off with power versus coasting usually points to a gear mesh issue. It could be differential or transmission. Does the whine change or go away in different gears, like 5th versus 6th? If it is there no matter what gear you are in then it might suggest differential.

i try like hell to pinpoint the sound but cant almost seems if coming from right below shifter but i cant say 100 percent........i just for the life of me figure out why its only when i hit the gas is it a clutch/throwout bearing possibly? and wouldnt the rear end make the sound 24/7 if it was bad? please any more suggestions appreciated

Loudness and pitch are two different things. More important than loudness is if the frequency or pitch of the noise gets higher with engine speed or stay constant.

Ring and pinion gear whine can be loud while accelerating and quiet when coasting and in some cases the other way around where it could be noisy while coasting and quiet while accelerating.

As asked before, does the whine change or go away in different gears, like 5th versus 6th?

Whine in all gears, I think differential but get it looked at by a Professional Mechanic that is trained / certified on the C5 differential.
I got this same good advice from a forum member in the last couple of weeks.

I get a hum that does not change with RPM, does however seem to be electrical as when i put the blinker or hazards on it changes frequency with the hum, thought it could be the noise from the fuel pump, still trying to get use to the normal sounds of the vette. which seems to be very difficult as there are many.

I get a high pitch whine sometimes from my fuel pump. The sound can be heard coming from the left side tank.
