Default C6 manual transmission in a C5?

This was brought up earlier today, and I figured I'd see if anybody knew. Since C6 is too short of a search term, it was hard to try and see if there was existing information.

Is it possible to put a C6 transmission in a C5 while still using the C5 torque tube and rear end? I'm talking 6-speed manual, FYI.

I know the entire drivetrain can be swapped, but didn't know if the transmissions themselves were different enough that this wouldn't work. A local guy has a manual trans for sale from a 2005 Corvette for very cheap, and another guy I know has a C5 Z06 with a locked up tranny... so I was curious if it's a viable transplant.

The swap can be done but your friend should know that the internal gear ratios will be different than his M12 (Z06) trans. The '05 uses the MM6 (Non Z06) trans.

This is copied from a post by Rodney at RPM Transmissions that is great explaining the differences:

01-up have compressed carbon blocking rings
03-up have steel 3-4 shift fork
04-up have a case to tail housing gasket (replaces silicone)
05-up have lead teeth on the engagement teeth of the 1-2 and 3-4 sliders and shifter rail bearings replace bushings. New design side to side detent mechanism
06-up have compressed carbon reverse blocking ring, 30 spline mainshaft on Z06's, redesigned tailhousing to differential mounting flange
07 -up have redesigned 5-6 and reverse mechanism
08-up New transmission design TR-6060

Now there are different ratios avaliable from 01-up and 05-up Z51 and Z06 have a intergal transmission cooler pump.

The 05 trans in the ONLY year that will be a direct swap into a C5. Mark C5 is correct that the ratio will be different.
