6.0 Iron Block builds : tell me about yours..
Okay, finishing up another project finally and going to get around to doing a little work on the vette this winter... I want to build a 6.0 iron block forged rotating assembly and build it for N/A.. What have all you guys done?? What do you have in yours, and what'd it cost to do it? Give me some ideas, the EG Mayhem cam in the 346 held me over, but I don't want to do expensive heads & intake without knowing if I'm keeping the bottom end. The 6.0 iron block budget builds seem to be making some awesome safe horsepower.. I don't want to dump serious $$ into this car, I've got enough going into other projects, this can't spiral out of control into [[another]] all out build.

Mine's a 4.125" bore and 4.00" stroke.(All Forged Internals)
Was 6.0L, Is 7.0L.
Weighs 70# more than the original 346.
P&P L92 Heads and Ported L76 intake.(Looking forward to getting the 102mm F.A.S.T.)
254 262 .647" .647" on a 110* Custom Camshaft
1 7/8" Kooks LTs - Kooks Off-road X-pipe - Straight-pipe Cat-back
11.9 to 1 CR
LS2 TB
Vararam VR-B2
There's a few others on here that have the Iron 6.0. The bump in cubic inches, from 346 to 427, made such a difference in Torque and HP.

i've been tossing around this idea as well. I just worry about the weight difference to the front and how it will affect the manners of the car

How safe is it to bore out the block to a 4.125" ? I thought you wanted to keep it around the 4.030" bore to be safe on wall thickness.
I have a 6.0 Iron LQ9 bored to 4.030", making it a 408ci
- Callies Compstar 4" Forged Crank
- Wiseco Forged Pistons
- ARP Everything
- 035 Hand Ported 72cc Heads
- 9.5 to 1 CR
I have a tremendous added weight to the front with the Iron block and the Kenne Bell supercharger. I relocated the battery to the rear to help out some. Not worried to much about having handling issues with the added weight. Not like im AuotCross racing or anything. I think I will have way more power to compensate for the weight.

I have an iron 408 with Ligenfelter 243 (2.10 valves, etc) heads, FAST intake/LS2 TB, forged up and built for nitrous (shortblock was 4K on special from LME in Houston), 1 7/8 ARH, no cats, 236/244, 625/625 on a 114, 11:1 comp, etc. Put down 490 or something like that at the wheels NA with seriously retarded timing (for the squeeze) and 700/700 on it. According to LME the shortblock will hold 900+ at the wheels but I need race gas to spray more than the 200.... plus I still have a stock trans and rear and I'm SCARED of destruction!!! lol.

man 490 rwhp off a 408. I've got 409 off a stock bottom end. 228R TexasSpeed cam and stock 243 heads. For the cost difference i would just add some low boost

As for 409 on a stock bottom end, I could make much more power with he bottom end then I am now, but I don't want something that is going to grenade on the road course...

oh for sure. i missed the nitrous timing sorry. If i was gonna do a 408 i'd be shooting for 500-525 rwhp as well. I aslo won't push my stock bottom end more then this. I could turn the engine higher and more aggressive cam but then i risk destroying my bearings in the bottom end. I've got the valvetrain for a big cam but that's it

people put a much bigger cam in 408s than mine but I also have a nitrous oriented cam... there are a lot of NA concessions made. even the clearances in the bottom end are nitrous spec.
not to mention 409 and 490 are a little different. We are talking about an 81 HP difference (and even more TQ) from a lazy 62 CI.... That's a lot man! Plus I can spray (or add a thicker head gasket and boost, lolz)....
not to mention different dynos, weather, etc.... I bet I am making well over 500 rwhp now that I moved to MD from TX.... my what a difference air makes....

yea that strays right past the whole "budget build" area and strait into "Spent way more than I want to" area.
