Default Oil Pressure-manual check?

1998 C5 automatic: My first [a blessing] which I have had approx 15 months. I purchased knowing that the Oil Pressure Sending Unit needed to be replaced. It was my understanding that this is a common problem and expensive to fix. So, can someone provide guidance regarding the process to manually check the Oil Pressure? Type of gage and where it would be applied on the engine. Many thanks!!!!!

Expensive?

It's a $40 part from Advance.

You do have to remove the intake manifold to get to it though, or alternatively you can cut an access hole through the lower windshield cowling.

Thanks for the info reqarding the process to replace the Oil Pressure sending unit, however, I'm looking for the process to check my oil pressure manually - I need to do this now to ensure that I don't have a pressure problem. thanks again.

You have not provided any specifics about the indication. Typical OPS failures peg high, not low. You can install a mechanical gauge at the oil galley plug, located on the left front part of the block.

Have you driven anywhere?

Is it still running (without making a *PANG* *PANG* *PANG* noise)?

If the answer to both of those is "yes", then you probably don't have a a "pressure problem" per se.

Oil pump failures are quite rare especially in un-modified engines. And these LS1/6 senders love to die. It sounds like you just want to be sure, but we're speaking from experience here. It's your sender.
