Tires spinnin or clutch slipping question
Put 4.10 gears in and just hit the drag strip and it feels like when i shifted through the gears the tires were spinning alittle each time I shifted. Is this possible or is my clutch slipping?
My tires are Toyo R888 305/35/18... tire pressure was 18 pounds
Car has 30,000 miles; stock clutch; tick clutch master cylinder
60 ft time was 1.8
I do not power shift only shift as fast as I can, lifting my foot off the gas and slamming it back down....
have never been able to spin 3rd and 4th off the street with tire pressure at 36 pounds...........
Is it possible to be spinningthe tires or is my clutch slipping? The guys I went with say there was no way it was spinning in 4th gear.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...
My best time was a 12.37 at 116
01 Z06 mods are american racing headers, Vortex intake, exhaust, tune, and 4.10 gears...

I'd think the new gears would easily lead to more tire spin, but really, it's pretty easy to tell if your tires have broken loose. The car gets squirrely, and feels different. When the clutch is slipping, the car feels completely normal, but the revs are rising without the acceleration push.

To see if your clutch is slipping, put it in 5th or sixth gear and floor it, if rpms rise without corresponding speed, your clutch is slipping.
My bet, your spinning tires. If your clutch was slipping, you would smell it.
BTW, 36 psi is too much for street, 30 psi cold.

Thanks for the replys guys. I'll lower my tire pressure and already tired the 5th gear thing for slipping and the rmps don't go up fast only how they should. It felt like spinning at the track, was hoping for better times but with the spinning i'm sure that took away my et.The buddies i went with just couldn't believe that i was able to spin that far down the track.

With just 390 RWHP & 375 ft/lbs Tq in my 02 ZO6, I was spinning the rear tires in 4th gear on the track at Epping NH. Of course, I was running crappy Perellie P Zeros (horrible tires) and it was fun power shifting but, it not the way to make the quickest time. Yes, you can spin tires in forth gear.
Its pretty nerve racking wiggling the rearend at 117 mph...

Yea,,,,I really have a problem doing burn outs also:
That's 80 feet of Toyo 315's
Unless you have everything working for you, breaking into the 11s is tough.

My clutch was slipping when i dynoed my car. You could tell by the graph(and my tuner told me immediately after the run). That being said, i drove the car for a couple of months b4 it got to where it was really noticeable. Then it got to where i would hit a hill on the highway in high gear and lose speed while the rpms raised like it was in neutral. Even then, it didn t slip in 1st gear.(that i could notice)
It was my fault for not properly breaking in my clutch.(a $910 mistake) (not counting the time it took to re-install the new clutch)

i run my street tires nitto 555' s at about 20 psi at the strip...
see if you ever smell the clutch burning at the track, i have clutch issues at the track that i never have on the street....most of them seem to be related to my burnout technique though..

I worry about getting the sticky clutch syndrome when i do my burnout,so i think thats why i never do a good burnout.I never smelled clutch at the track,i really think my tires were spinning or at least i hope that's what was happening.
