What Tire To Buy?
I have bald runcraps, and need new tires. What is the best tire to buy that's not too expensive? After looking on Tire Rack I'm more confused than ever. I want them to last and be quiet. I don't race it but still want it to handle.

Sams Club sells tires and you can order most anything. They have the right equipment to properly remove the tire from the rims, but you should make sure that their most experienced tech does the work because of the tire size and the tire sensors.

Thanks. I'm aware of that. I still don't trust anybody...

Ive just got some kumhos spt's and are worth every penny. I ahd the same problem and thats what was most recommended for the price quality and looks. Very smooth and road noise is minimal. check out the C5General section my post is on there Titled "Tires???"with some really good feed back from some great members like Racebum for example.

You need to narrow down your wants a little more.
-From your location, I assume you don't need an all season tire.
-Do you want a runflat tire?
-Michelin's new summer tire (put on ZR-1) is probably the best.
-Goodyear GSD3 is probably the best non-runflat tire. Great handling and great in rain.
Then there are cheap tires . . .

If you have a good budget to work it. I would STRONGLY recommended the Michelin Pilot PS-2.
Im pretty sure alot of guys would agree with me on this.
I have a set 265/305. I have the PS2 mounted on 5 other vehicles of mine. ANOTHER! great option is the Vredestien Sessanta. Google them. They are # 1 in Europe.

If you don't trust the tire mounting guys, do what I do.
I offer them $40 extra if they can change tires without marking them or breaking any TPMSs. I then mark all the existing marks on the wheels with painter's tape. I always take my wheels off my car and in to them, that way they can't mark up my car.
It has always worked for me, and cheap piece of mind.

I think the Khumo tires are very good for the money. Most people that mention them here like them and would buy them again.
I put Bridgestone RE-11's on the front and they are much cheaper than the PS2's yet very similar and have performed just as well in my opinion. My CCW 19" rims limit my tire choices a lot though so this was the best bang for the buck I found for my 19" wheels.
The Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110's got lots of good reviews and feedback when I was shopping. Everyone seemed to rave about them. I found a test report from Europe (not in english) but I could still figure out what the graphs read and they were rated within about 90% of the PS2's at less than 50% of the cost.
Discount Tire Direct sells Nitto quite cheaply and they are generally considered a very good tire. I think they tend to wear quicker but then maybe that's just their max performace tires.
I put rear PS2's on at the end of last year expecting to change the fronts as well but after running them for a while I just feel they are way too expensive for what they are and generally over rated. Sure, they might be a great tire but it you can get a tire that is 80% as good for <50% the cost it seems that's the better choice.

There are cheaper tires............there are better tires.......this would kind of be in the middle of all that, and definitely a large step up from the tires he currently has.
Do you want run flats again? I would not want them for their ride or weight. If you have a flat call a tow truck or something, don't sacrifice performance and ride quality for "in case you have a flat".
Also the GS-D3's are available in non run flats and have more tread depth than most other brands by 2/32 so one should take that into consideration when comparing price. Also note that discount tire is very competitive to tire rack. Their prices include shipping as tire racks do not.
And if you're looking for really cheap, and not a bad tire at all (I have them on the front of my car) then check out the Sumitomo HTRZ III's they have a good tread design and shed water very well.

I didn't expect this much response. Thanks guys.
Car Boy has a good point about the free shipping from Discount Tires. I didn't think of that. Plus they are a retail store. And they have a store right down the block. Still looking though.

the bridgestone re-11 is faster than any tire that i have seen listed here. the drawback is that it also has the shortest life and so so rain performance. the statement about "the op needs to narrow this down" is very true. we need the following:
1. your budget?
2. how many miles per year you drive?
3. what conditions you drive in?
4. any track use?
5. what tire size. i'm assuming 275 40 18 and 245 45 17? choices change depending on what's made
6. how you operate the car, are you easy, do you push it etc?
based on what you said about the above in your first post the kumho spt comes to mind. it's cheap, quiet, lasts and offers reasonable performance for what it is. when i say reasonable it's not a bad thing, it's just the tire will not pull hard in the dry like the re-11 will. then again the spt is nearly half the price and will live a good deal longer. if there is anymore information that you can give us it will help even more

I put on a set of the PS2 runflats on my 04 vert this spring and I am very happy with them and they seem to be alot quieter than the GYrun flats. I know what you are going through I went nuts trying to decide myself , but with alot of input from guys on the forum I think I made a great choice. Remember You get what you pay for . GOOD LUCK

I just saw this on E-bay from OE Wheels. What do you guys think? Will these size tires fit? It doesn't say what kind of Firestone's though.
