Optima Battery Question?
Just for information and discussion, has anybody had any trouble with the Optima battery?

Not me ... they seem to hold up to their word. I got mine from Shawn @ LAPD a while back .. and it remains flawless :) The battery is very strong and definetely doesn't leak. I recommend it. Here is a pic of the battery, in my Z.

From a post in the AGM battery discussion (dgrace):
"Nobody's perfect; my first Optima yellow top died after 8 months of occasional use. Shawn at L.A.P.D. took care of me though - thanks again Shawn!"

Did you cut off the carry strap that comes with the battery?

Uh...no. On my Red-Top, bought 2-weeks ago, the strap just needs to be pushed down on the side grooves, and it will come off. Keep the strap handy
when you need to yank the battery out later.

My earlier posting was deleted (probably by me in error).
I would be very worried about those two EXPOSED terminals on top of the
battery. Surly they came with protective caps. If not then there is 101 uses
for duck tape. If the battery was mine I would put those top terminals to
good use for powering the ham gear
-
You really need to cover them with something!

Dick, I'm thinking you got short-changed so to speak. All the Red-Tops
I've seen including mine and the ones in stores have the top posts covered
with red caps...
Maybe you should run up to Pep Boys and do a 'five-finger' discount when
no ones looking... :D
Cecil, I'm not really sure the exact difference between the two.

Snake, The difference between the Red Top and the Yellow: Yellow Top is more of a Deep Cycle batttery and costs ~$20.00 more. Good to use if you crank up and leave on the tunes/CB or Ham radio when you're parked with engine off.

I swapped out the OEM battery for the red top a while back. I did it to reduce the posibility of a leaking OEM battery. I have not looked back since. ;) Everyone should replace the OEM battery with this RED, BLUE or YELLOW top (matter of choice) Battery.

Re: Optima Battery Question? (NEED FOR SPEED)
My Delco couldn't hold a charge over three weeks, I bought a re top and have been very happy with it. The top posts are great for attaching a 2amp trickle charger to it. :D
