Like it says, came to work this morning and drove through some standing water that was deeper than I thought. 200 feet later heard loud metal on metal "clack clack clack" sound and engine shook and died. Oil underneath car and smoke filled the interior. I'm assuming the worst, it was pouring rain and haven't had time to take a real good look yet. I'm figuring on having to buy a new short block at least and am exploring all options. Anybody point me in the right direction? I'm also wondering if my insurance will cover it as it was caused by the flooded road at the gate where I drive onto base. I'm looking to go forged as the motor is blown and this is the perfect oppurtunity. Considering stroking it too but I am on a budget. What do you guys think? Stock displacement forged? LS2? Where is a good place to find a short block? Thanks in advance, Rain

Go back and take pics NOW of what you went through where etc etc. Should be covered under your insurance good luck.

The C5 I bought 2 months ago had the same thing happen to the previous owner. He got paid by the insurance Co. and sold the car in blown up condition.

Thanks guys, that gives me SOME hope that it won't come out of pocket...
Anybody got suggestions for reasonably priced forged shortblocks, or longblocks, depending on how bad the insurance adjuster tries to rape me?

insurance should cover it - do you have stock intake
or an aftermarket setup?

I talked to a guy last week at the dyno.He had a Varam intake on his car and it tried to suck up the puddle. His insurance paid for a new engine. They did not want to hear anything about upgrade etc, new stock. Good Luck

I got diverted into a flooded area in my old subaru and the diff and transaxle filled with water. Insurance covered it all.

We've talked to a few insurance companies regarding replacing hydrolocked engines before when they call for quotes (We are also a new car dealership ans parts dept in addition to specializing in performance parts). Most pay their insured customer and the customer does whatever they want with replacing it, like most minor collision situations.

They don't generally give any trouble and take care of it without issues.

i didn't know they would cover that on insurance. learn something new every day i know damn well if something like that ever happened to me i'd have ended up paying for it outta pocket not thinking to even talk with the insurance company.

Same thing happened to me, and not only did the insurance cover it, the dealership gave me the motor because they said there isn't a core charge for the LS1. I sold it for parts and almost made my deductible back. Also, I had them replace the clutch while the motor was out and just had to pay for the parts. Not a bad deal.

Does the vararam suck up water a lot?? I was thinking about getting one.. but I will have to drive in the rain once in a while... definitely not trying to give the car a straw..

I was driving in a Poor down and I have the Vara Ram, never missed a beat. I think the way its design it shouldnt suck up any water, unless you go through a deep puddle.
