I did mine last weekend ( 02 Z06 ) with Redline's D4 ATF and it made a clear difference for the better, especially once it gets warmed up.

What brand did you use?

You should have used...

AMSOIL Synthetic Universal Transmission Fluid.

http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/atf.aspx

This stuff works wonders !!

If you're referring to Red line products , can be ordered from Jeg's. They deliver to your door in a couple days.

I don't understand it. You sure you got it full. It should have made a big difference. About 6 years ago, I was almost ready to bring in the tranny for a rebuild, but I replaced the fluid with Mobil 1 ( some people are now going comment about Mobil 1 and paper rings ), and it was almost like new.

I did last year still no problems and i highly recommend. Get the Amsoil ATF for ur manual. You need 3.5 qts approx.

Did you have your C5 from new? If not, it is possible that a previous owner replaced the trans fluid with a synthetic. You replaced the synthetic with regular dextron and it is now worse.

All 1997-2000 C5s have paper blocker rings and Mobil 1 is NOT compatable. I used Mobil 1 for nearly 50,000 miles in my 1998, but then it started grinding going into 6th gear (couldn't have been sycronizers, who speed shifts into 6th). I changed fluid to Amsoil ATD and it stopped immediately !

I just did a COMPLETE fluids flush today and dropped in exactly what the owner's manual recommends for a '98: Dexron III ATF.

bought a jug of castrol for around $15 and the tranny shifts like a dream.

I've read into posts on the paper ring situation extensively and have found that those in the know say stay away from synthetics.

FWIW, the car has over 90k miles on it but you'd NEVER know by driving it.

It is probably full. Mine usually took about 3 1/4 quarts after draining. Personally, I'm not a fan of most Dexron III fluids as they use conventional basestock and shear down very quickly. I am clearly biased, but I've been using the AMSOIL fluids in my 02 Z06 and 06 CTS-V for years with very good results.

For those ordering AMSOIL using the above link directly to AMSOIL, would appreciate it if you used reference #1206638 so my dealership and the forum benefit from the sale.

I changed the fluid in my 98 6 speed and used Royal Purple. Not perfect but a big difference. The first to second shift is a lot smoother now. You might want to do a little more research before you change the trans fluid again.

I just replaced the stock fluid in my 99 coupe M6 at 65k miles with Castrol Dex/Merc Domestic Multi-Vehicle ATF. ON the bottle, is says, Recommended for use in all 2005 & prior GM automatic transmissions. I never had a problem with the old stock fluid (it was still nice and red when I drained it), and I do not have any problems with the new fluid. It shifts just fine.

Fixed it, now it feels a lot better, I jacked up the driver side way up, and filled it, surprisingly the trans was still pretty level, but topped it off with another half quart or so....
