you measure from the center out
if the wheel had a 0 offset then the back of the hub would be dead center of the wheel.
if the wheel had a 0 offset then the back of the hub would be dead center of the wheel.

56 and 61 look like the offset numbers not the backspacing.

Bill is correct! Offset and backspacing are two different things.
Offset is the distance from the center of the wheel to where it bolts flush to the hub.
Backspacing is the distance the rim goes back over the hub toward the spring.
