All C-5 owners how is your oil consumption?
Please tell us your model year and engine oil consumption experience.
We are trying to determine if high oil consumption is common in all the aluminum block motors. Is it only limited to Z-06 block? Only 6 speed? Did oil ring re-design reduce consumption from 2002 on? Any thing you can tell us will help.
Our previous experience with c-2 and c-3 cast iron engines was zero consumption per 3000 - 4000 miles in both small and big blocks with compression ratios up to 13:1.
Thanks for your help.

Much of this debate has been discussed. I feel that the way the car is driven, as in, what RPM range the engine will see is indicative of how much oil it will use. I put oil catch cans on both of my C5's so far. I'd rather have the oil collected in a can rather than get into my intake and on my valves.

My 2004 drinks it, my 2000 doesn't burn a drop.
Bought the 04 new with 11 miles on it and broke it in EXACTLY as GM recommended. Has burned it, sucked it, filled the catch can, etc. every day of its life. 14K miles on it now, still same as when new.
My 2000 was flogged before I bought it (needed a clutch at 45K miles if thats any indicator) and I am the third owner. Doesn't burn a drop. Dry intake like it was supposed to be.
My opinion, the removal of the PCV valve in the 04 was a mistake. I know it would not have controlled all the oil issues but would reduce the chance at high rpm of intake ingestion. I have literally had it run out the front bellow of the throttle body (coming through the air intake hose into the valve cover).
According to GM, normal operation...
