moving the coil packs

there is no performance gain and with hydraulic lifters you don't need to adjust the valves

Ummmmm, its an appearance mod.
Do you "waste your time" waxing your car? That doesn't give any performance gain either.

Very nice writeup
I went that way myself... a little more actually...

Coils relocated on each side but accessible, like what Englandgreen did some years ago

This is a lot of work for the most stupid thing I've seen. I'm an electrical engineer. There is a reason why GM wanted SHORT plug wires. The spark is reduced over distance. Instead of 45K volts to the plug with your setup you just lost 2-3K volts. You'll need all of that at 6600 RPM. In fact most cars these days that use coil on plug have the coil built into the end of the plug wire to REDUCE DISTANCE even more.
I don't want to take the fenders off to change the plug wires.

Its not for me.

Hmmm, dont want to rain on your electrical engineer parade, but my motor JUST made 618HP (as verified on an engine dyno) with the exact same plug wire set the OP used. Yep, my coils from my car (GM stock coils with 45,000 miles on them and 8 years old) were remote mounted on the side of the engine dyno and super long plug wires ran from the coils to the plugs. So if I "lost" 2-3K volts, then I gues I dont care too much, cause 618HP is a pretty decent number in my book.

Besides, it looks damn good!

Anyway, just sayin................

Great write up, great pictures. Thanks for you time, effort and willingness to share.
I am an old dude now and remember so well how all the Model A and Model T restorers hated the hot rodders for modifying perfectly good cars. You have personalized your ride and that is as cool as it can get when your happy with it.
Way to go and keep it up.

Thanks for the kudos and the negative feedbacks as well. I have no problems at all with my spark. My car is running at 505 RWHP and have no spark issues up to 6300 RPMs on a stock engine. The wires I used are a lot thicker than the stock wires, and the loss in them is less that you think.

Nice write up. I remember when I had an Rx7 and relocated the battery to the rear of the car. I did a very similar writeup with photos and got alot of the same negative comments. I understand you're posting to show how to. It's there for anyone that wants to perform the same mod, for what ever their reasons.
Good job.

Great write up! Love the details and pics, definitely gives me some ideas for relocation. I have seen the F-body guys hang them from the cowl, I wonder if we have enough room there?

the braieded hoses are fuel lines! I have a very customized fuel system. It will support over 1000 RWHP, which I hope to have by the end of this year.

why? how will you make it to the end of the track any faster than a 500 hp car?

Will this be a slicks only drag car with 1000 hp?

What good is 1000hp on the street?

serious questions.

I've never lost a coil, but I have had wires crack and arc.

Why do you care? If that is what the OP wants to do with his car, then cool I say, let him have his fun. Sometimes is not necessarily the end result, but the journey getting there that is the most fun and satisfying.

Maybe his goal is NOT to get down the track at all. Maybe he just likes tinkering with his car.

The reality is, how are most of the performance upgrades good on the street? Blowers, NOS, coil overs, ram air intakes, solid motor mounts..... blah blah blah. That being said, I will continue to upgrade as funds are available...

1000 rwhp cars are not uncommon on the street these days. With a boost controller they are very manageable.

I say rock on to the OP....if I had the funds....I'd have 1000 rwhp vette too.
