Random Tech hi flow cat people, please step in
I have texas long tubes with the thunderbolt hi flow cats from performance curve (cheap at 55.00 per cat) but im still getting that gas/exhaust smell, not as bad as with no cats but still there...I was wondering if i got the ramdom tech cats that the smell would go away completely like the stock system...If no then im gonna dump the headers and just go either back to stock with the borla catback or a Z06 header and cats/H-pipe with the borlas...
I dragrace the car (car also has 125 shot Nos ) and do several road course sessions a year (funny i dont notice the smell when im on the track) but I drive my vette everywhere and me and the wife take a trip every weekend in the vette during the summer and she cant stand the smell..she says i ruined the car and i really dont like the smell either....:o
Im kinda sorry that i went the longtube headers route right now because of the smell...just want some feedback from someone with hi-flo cats that dont stink...or is that not a possibility

I went with LG long tubes on my car with their "high flow" cats. I'm sure they're not random tech, but don't know what brand and I don't have any gas smell. It might be in your tune.

I have Dynatech LT's with the RT free-flow's with currently 7k on the system and no odors anymore.
I had some when all was new but as I put on the milage it went away.....and if I remember correctly, the odor dissapated with each heat cycle.
I use Shell 93 gas.

99 has AR Headers, Random High Flow Metal Matrix cats, 2000 has Texas Headers Random High Flow Metal Matrix cats. BOTH are tuned. No smell. I don't think there was a smell before the tune anyway.

Your running rich. Also, if you run catless you'll get it more. But, even with cats and a bad or no tune, you'll get the smell. Does it kind of smell like a cross between exhaust and raw fuel?

car has predator mail order tune, and i have an AEM wide band that always is reading.., I have the long term fuel trims running in the 0 to -1 range and am at 12.8 at full throttle,,(11.6 on the juice) ,car also runs in the 14.7 -14.9 range at idle and cruising (stoich ??) ,,,,,
am i saying the car is tottally tuned, no, but I get the smell with the stock tune and the mailorder one....the car is not running pig rich, I also have a blackhawk intake

I have LG Motorsports and their high flow CATS. They are made by RT. No smell with them on and very minimal with a good tune with out. Enough that I can live with.
