02 C5 Z06 Fuel Tank leaking!?!
Anybody ever experience this on their Z06? I have a PP0442A trouble code read and smelling gasoline fumes and vapor when car is in storage. Intermittent trouble code comes on when car is below 1/2 tank.
-Checked for exhaust leaks via stethoscope-All clear
-Checked for bad fuel cap-All clear
-Pulled fuel tanks-right pax tank had hairline cracks on top!!!
Anybody ever hear of this? Car has 56K miles. Car is lowered via Pfadt coilovers. Thinking it might have been a high speed dip impact or ???
or maybe just dealing with a tank gone bad? Wondering if anyone else on this forum experience anything similar.
GM dealer wants $789 for new right pax tank with pump and lines! Any assistance is greatly appreciated-thanks.

Buddy of mine had that problem. He had to have the tank replaced. Look up Gene's Kar Shop or Vette to Vette for a good used tank.
Good luck on the repair.

These tanks don't bust easily. They're made of roughly 1/4" thick polyethylene plus they have a shield on them. Most likely a broken line that goes to one of the 2 tanks.

That code is for an Evaporative System leak. It doesn't necessarily point to the fuel tank or the fuel cap. Check the hoses and other components in the evaporative system to make sure they aren't loose or have holes in them. Here is what the service manual says to check:
(1)EVAP Canister Purge Solenoid
(2)EVAP Canister
(3)Fuel Fill Neck/Fill Cap
(4)Rollover Valve/Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) Sensor
(5)Fuel Tank
(6)EVAP Canister Vent Solenoid
(7)Vent Hose/Pipe
(8)EVAP Vapor Pipe
(9)EVAP Purge Pipe
(10)EVAP Service Port

- A damaged EVAP purge solenoid
- Inspect the EVAP system for the following conditions:
- Disconnected, improperly routed, kinked, or damaged EVAP pipes and hose
- A damaged EVAP vent solenoid or EVAP canister
