How much do you charge to do a stage 2 port on a set of LS1 heads?

We don't do them one at a time. We have them already ported and on the shelf. No core is required. You could get more selling your cores on the forums than I could give you.

Outright pricing with no core, per head:
(EDIT: REDUCED)
$299 for center bolt
$199 for perimeter bolt

I don't know what a set of cores goes for on the forum these days, but you could make some money back that way.

Thanks for the reply. I have yet to understand what has changed in the industry that no longer enables a guy who does his own work to save money on heads. In years past, there was a significant savings having your existing heads ported, now, most shops charge an amount for porting that pushes people into buying a complete set of heads they don't need.

Example: I called one vendor who sells complete ported LS6 heads for $1200. I asked how much to port my LS6 heads, and was told $800. So that means that new castings, springs, valves, seals are only $400? Obviously, that is not the case. So what gives?

Any insight would be appreciated.....

Labor is saved by doing many sets all at the same time. They are CNC ported. There are fixtures to be set up and programs to be loaded. It takes a lot more time on a per head basis to port 1 set of heads than it does to port 10 sets of heads. A technician can bet getting the second head ready as the first set is being ported. It becomes an assembly line and speeds up the process. As in all manufacturing, its all about quantity.

Jason,

I have 806 heads. Other than being the precursor to even the 853, can you tell me anything about them like how the compair to an 853 or even 241 or 243?

There is almost no info on 806's good bad or indifferent, runner size, flow #'s.

About the only thing I do know is that they were 68cc chambers then the 853s & 241s were reduced to 67cc and 243 reduced to 64cc.

Of course I expect the 241 and 243 to flow better cfm.

Thanks and great deals!
