Default Racing fuel good bad or ugly

I have a "99" coupe with a cam, LS6 heads, headers, straight cats, LS6 intake, a "Vararam" forced air system and a tune. all done by the "VETTE DOCTORS", can I put some racing fuel in it? I read some where that the computer won't recognize the octane difference. Is that BS? I'd call those guys but there gone till tues.Well it hurt any of the sensors?

are you talking 103 octane ?

There are few types of race fuel and they could burn up your cats.

if you do not have head work and dramatically changed your compression ratio then stick with pump gas and perhaps a couple bottles of octane booster to eliminate any pinging if you have that issue.

Unless you have really increased your cylinder pressure factor (higher compression ratio,FI etc.) I'd stay away. Even with any of those I'd only use a little of it at the track when you're pushing it hard!

If you're not experiencing detonation, race gas won't benefit you in any way, shape or form.

Run the lowest octane you can get away with.

Higher octane = slower burn, less detonation if that were an issue, more heat and burn into the exhaust, burn up cats. Bad thing.

The higher octane is good only for higher compression and unless your mods changed the ratio you are just wasting $$$$. You will lighten your wallet for nothing.

At $8 per gallon it is to be avoided.

I kinda chuckle when I hear people say they only "use the best premium" in their little 4 banger econobox designed to run on regular!! They have no idea that it will run better on regular and they are wasting money!!:cheers :

I wish I could find it for that much. I couldn't find any lower than 10 bucks a gallon.

Y2Kvert4me is right on stating to run the lowest octane you can get away with. Octane doesn't increase power, it increases burn time, or rather, slows the burn or flame front down. If you have more octane, you have less gas to burn per unit so to speak. So you'll actually have less power available than more.
