How important is it to use a Mobile 1 Oil filter?
The local Mobil Lube uses Purolator filters rather than the mobile M1 filter. They charge an extra 10 bucks for using the latter. How important is it to use a Mobile filter versus the Purolator?

very good question considering all the "gold" UPFs are gone and I'm doing an oil change tomorrow :(
so what kinda local stores carry the Molbil1 Filter, what kinda cap wrench do you need and what part#
same questions for the Purolator filter :)

Just get the Mobil 1 filter from L.A.P.D. and you will sleep better knowing that you put Mobil 1 oil and filter in your car

Actually,it is not important to use Mobile 1 oil filter,10 bucks extra sounds abit
much.It is only one of our choice because M1 is one of the filters that filter out
the most . I think a forum supporting vendor sell it for 8.99,do a search

Thinks I would use a standard PF-44 AC Delco filter before using the other. They should be less then $3 at Wal-Mart.

Have you ever tired Amsoil products? VHP ( Vinci Hi-Performance) uses Amsoil SDF-32 filters w/ 5w30 in all his project cars. You can order on line and have it delivered to your door in 2-3 days.

The importance is probably less than using AC Declo UltraGuard UPF44. And yes the UPF44 will still be made for the LS1.

You know, since most of us change our oil and filter much more frequently than the manual calls for, it probably doesn't matter much what filter you use. Keep in mind that the manual calls for the PF-44 filter, which I buy for $2.79.

I agree; cars using standard OEM filters have driven over 300,000 miles using petroleum-based oils which was changed every 3-4000 miles. I'll bet that you really only need to worry if you extend your oil intervals beyond what GM says is acceptable. However, having more protection than what is necessary can't hurt your car one iota.

I use the M1 filter, but only bc my manager friend at Auto Zone gives me the V.I.C. discount.

So now you have your answer: it is not important. Use a good filter, including the PF44, and change them every 3000 miles regardless of your oil change intervals. :smash:

Re: How important is it to use a Mobile 1 Oil filter? (skydive69)
Well, my 175,000 mile S10 and 155,000 mile Blazer have always had standard Fram filters with Mobil 1 oil every 6,000 miles, no oil usage, no leaks. However, my 502 Mag boat and Corvettes get Mobil 1 filters (autozone here has them) because they are made better and have more pleats and filter media is improved over standard filters. I ALWAYS cut my filters apart to check for abnormal wear debris, and I can say while the quality of the Fram is barely adequate, the normal AC is "kinda cheaply made", some of the off brands HORRIBLE, the Gold AC is Very good as well as the Mobil 1.
