Where can I get new electronic magnetic Shock absorber for my wife's 2003. The dealer wants $1,000 per shock and $750 to install the front ones. Thanks in advance

His parts price is in-line with GM list price ($1,096.93) .... but you can do better buying from these guys ....

They list the F55 shock for $570.40 plus shipping.

The dealer price for replacing the shocks seems awfully high .... even excessive .... I can't see where (assuming your guy is charging $100 per hour) that they figure replacing two front shocks takes 7 plus hours ..... I'd think a good GM mechanic could do it in an hour, easy ..... You sure of that quote for labor ???? That is "true" stealership pricing if that is what they actually quoted.

You can do it yourself ... it is a VERY simple job. Actually, with the F55 ... you don't even need a shock compression tool .... If you have a jack and some wrenches you are in business .... I'll bet it will take you longer to jack the car and remove the front wheels than it will take to replace the shocks.

Why are you replacing the shocks? If it's for a rough ride, make sure the shock stuffers installed for shipping have been removed. Many were never removed by the dealers and have been driven for years with the owner's not knowing how smooth they should be.

Do this first.

Second, the dealer will always charge the going rate... which is always way overpriced.

Third, if money is a concern, IMO ditch the F55 mag ride and put in some regular performance shocks. Install simulators or have the mag ride option tuned out of the PCM. Enjoy a great ride at a fraction of the cost (all 4 shocks installed for less than the price of ONE F55 shock at the discount rate)

OK - excuse me if I'm being naive here, but I was told the F55 shocks were a "lifetime" item and should not need to be replaced. My 04 doesn't have the F55 system, but I was strongly considering this option when I heard the word "lifetime." How many miles are on this car? What does GM consider a lifetime system? I sure don't want this system on a future corvette if shocks need to be replaced as often as "regular" shocks.
Just my thoughts.

I think I would write off whoever told you this as a reliable source for any future information. My understanding is that normally the F55 shocks should last somewhat longer than the FE1/3/4 shocks, but certainly are not "lifetime". I've seen a number of threads here about the F55 shocks going bad or failing. Too, my understanding was that GM would replace them without charge under the original factory warranty if they failed within that period. However, I've also read that they are not covered under the GMPP extended warranty. See Dennis Fichtner's (Forum Member CeYaBye) reply in the thread below. Dennis handles the GMPP extended warranties for Fichtner Chevrolet, a Forum supporting dealer. I feel quite certain Dennis would be happy to answer any questions you might have in this regard.

The car has 75,000 miles and the shock is leaking. Thanks for the help I will go to the site mentioned. When I was there last time I did not search under F55.

Watch the C6 parts for sale. I got a whole set of 5k take-offs with the sensors and linkage for $300 from a guy doing a twin turbo mod.

If you have the part number off the shock do a search on the part number to see what pops up (also search on the Delco number). I have the real time damping suspension on my Tahoe and when the rear shock blew I found a source through EBay that supplied all 4 shocks for the same price as most other vendors wanted for one shock.

i also was told me rear shock has a slight leak i have not replace yet but went to the web sight you were given and was much cheaper, dealer price for my rear was 850.00 but gthe labor was only 80.00 which is one hour for this dealer, labor is 95.00 but get 15% discount for belonging to the local vette club..

2 questions: I have a leaking left front shock with magnetic ride on my 2003 corvette, will the C6 F55 shock work on the C5 as a direct replacement? Any suggestions on where I can get a front shock for a reasonable price? Thanks

I also had a 98 Coupe with the F-45 option/base suspension. For me, the system NEVER had any WOW moments. Once I got a chance to drive a C5 with a Z-51 suspension option or a ZO6, the F-45 is a JOKE!

Heres what you do for some real suspension improvements that will make you think you purchased a new car:

- Find a set of used C5 ZO6 sway bars and springs OR order new ZO6 stuff from Gene Culley. Call him and see what C6 ZO6 stuff he has for your C5.

- Purchase a set of four new C6 ZO6 shocks from Gene Culley www.gmpartshouse.com ($240 ish dollars new for all four) Direct Fit!!
