Magnesium wheels

My magnesium rims also have wheel weights on the outside... I'm not happy with that... I'll be taking those off and having them rebalanced next week when i get my new tires put on. I can't imagine why a guy balancing a tire would put the weight on the outside... I have heard that there is balance issues depth-wise that they are correcting when they do this... I can kind of comprehend this... think of the balance of that rim on a different plane or axis... but I don't believe that because I don't believe they balance tires to that precision.

in the front the caliper wil wipe off any stick on weights you place in side of the barrel.. behind the spokes. the only place you can put weights is to glue them on the spokes, there is a small indentation on the back side.
I did and it works.
you can put them on the barrel in the rear , and paint them to match.

Is that specific to the mags? I've always had adhesive weights on the inside of the barrel on my thinspokes and my ZR1 track wheels and they clear the calipers fine. There's not a lot of clearance and I use some flashing tape to cover them so they don't melt off when the brakes get hot, but they don't contact the caliper.
I did find a Goodyear dealer once that had low profile weights that cleared but no one else has even heard of them.

Yup. I have the weights on the outside too. Just get some Duplicolor paint (I found mine on the local auto parts store)- I THINK the color is sandstone- do a search here and someone will have the part number, and paint the weights. DO NOT pay for the GM mag weights they're RIDICULOUSLY expensive like $30 for 2 oz.
