Frederick, eh? In the mid late 80's and early 90's I used to run my 78 Pace car at Cecil County. Is it still in operation?

I hope no one minds if I bring this thread back to life, but I am having a somewhat strange issue with my C5.

I have tried several times to program my key fob to my car and I am not having very much luck.

I have gone through the steps listed in the manual, internet, forums, etc.
I believe my problem may be that I only have one key fob that works, the other one was broken when I got the car.

I turn the key to ON, push options until it goes blank, hold reset, key fob, reset, hold lock and unlock on the fob I have that works, and everything goes fine up to this point. Once my only working fob is programmed, the menu wants to program the second one.

The first fob will work great until I get out of the car, then I have to do the entire process over. I have not been able to find a way to skip programming the second fob or save the programming of the first one.

Thoughts?

You'd be better off to start a new thread instead of attaching to one several years old, but it sounds like your fob is losing sync. You also don't say what year car you have and it's not in your profile. Based on many past posts from others with the same problem, I'd bet you have a 2000. They have become very common with the problem you describe. You program them and they work a few minutes or a day and then have to be reprogrammed. Some have been able to fix the fobs by soldering the connections on the internal board, others have had to replace the fob. If it is a 2000 or before, the fobs are pretty expensive. The 01 and up can be bought for 10 to 20 bucks, but won't work on the older cars. When you pull the key out it stops the programming sequence, so all you have to do is pull the key out after you finish programming the first fob. Fill out your profile, or tell us the model of your car if you need more specific info.

New here and learning alot-just got my first 'vette. 97 coupe. The key fob was acting strange, so I opened to clean it, and like a moron broke off the battery contacts. ordered one with a matching fcc id-also used. It wont link to the car. So i took the back of the newer one and put on the factory one-still nothing. I just read where several people have said that radio needs to be off. Could that be why the fob wont link to the car? Also, where is the receiver in the car if I need to replace it?

I did all the steps exactly as posted. I have sat there holding lock and unlock together for 2-3 min and nothing. I did not however have the radio off. Could that have been the problem?

I realize this is an old thread, but I just used these procedures to program a new key fob that I purchased from Amazon and it worked like a charm. No issues at all. The only caveat I’d recommend is that when it asks you to program the 1st, 2nd and 3rd key fobs, that you go ahead an “re-program” any known “good” fobs you currently have or the car will cease to recognize them.

I had to bump this thread, I don’t actually have a issue with FOBs…I happened to read through this thread and found it full of information and laughs.

it’s now the year 2022, the mid engine C8 corvette was released in 2020..

Does anyone have any C8 fob issues we can help with?

Long live this thread!
