Default Moving! U-Haul! Tow Dolly!!

Yup, I'm goin' south. Need to tow my '01 behind a 24 foot Uhaul moving van with a tow dolly for about 700 miles. I guess I need to know a few things:

1. Safe place for tie downs, and advice surrounding them.
2. Will road debris be a problem...? How to counter...?

Uhaul trucks are low in the rear, and I know car-covers flapping against the paint can be bad. I figure I'll tow her down naked  and wash the dirt and grime off later.

I'm also considering saran-wrapping the nosecone, just in case-but I can't see much hitting it hard enough to damage it (it is a big truck, and Uhauls sit low, so I don't think much will be kicked up from the tires. But, since I've never done this before...

That is why I'm asking these questions!!

If its like any other car let me lend some advice. If you still have your column lock in place you should tow it by the rear tires with front wheels down. Its generally advised against towing on the drive wheels. Must have something to do with the automatic transmission cause all tow truck drivers leave the cars running around here when towing on the drive wheels.

Sorry, let me clarify...It will be on the four wheel dolly types, elevated completely off the ground.

You're talking about an Auto Transport, not a tow dolly. Tow dollys only pick up the front wheels and are for front-wheel drive cars only.

You should be sure that your Corvette will fit on one of those before you rent it. You should be concerned about clearance underneath and on the side by the transport's fenders.

You tie the vehicle down by the shipping slots located in the 4 jacking points on the side rails. Use and S-hook in the slot.

Thanks for the advice. They say it will fit...but I'll find out prior.

Also, is their any added vulnerability to road debris like that...? Will the truck block rocks and chips-or make it worse...?

If your vette is lowered it will not fit on one of these trailers. I had the misfortune of having no choice but to use one and didn't take into consideration the trailer clearance and ended up ripping my floor board up because of the "guide rails" on the trailer extend fairly high underneath the car.

I spoke with UH today and they say their records show it will fit. Should I worry about road debris...??

I'm still worried about road debris being kicked up by the Uhaul. Anyone have any experience here? If not, I'll let this question drop :smash:

I have towed many cars as you are going to. As long as you stay on the highway, you shouldn't have a problem. You have a greater risk of hitting road debris if you were driving you vette. IMO. I have done it 4-5 times with no problems. I would be more concerned with clearance. Definitely try to drive your car on the transport before move day. You may save yourself alot of aggrevation. :yesnod:
