Another tire question - yes, I've searched
Need new tires for my 03 Z06. I want the widest tire for stock wheels and also the closest to stock height as possible. Suggestions please. Also, I remember seeing a tire caculator that figures this stuff out but can't find it. Help please. Thanks in advance for your response.

Not sure about the calculator, but if you go to the individual tire you are interested in, it give the specifications such as diameter, width, etc. I used this to attempt to get the correct diameter for my daughters car who was going to a different tire profile. I have the GS-D3's mounted on Z16 wheels.

Try this site and see if its what you are looking for. I know its for a miata, but you can select tire sizes and wheel sizes too....

Last I checked, nobody makes a wider street tire than 295's for an 18 inch wheel. Drag Radials or track tires are the only larger sized tire you could get to fit on an 18. Correct me if Im wrong please.

I may have not been reading the searched information correctly but I thought since the Z06 rims are wider that people were putting 315/30 or 35/18's on the rear. I thought these were street tires. Please correct me if i'm wrong. Having very close to the stock height is very important. Thanks again in advance and for the above comments.

here is a good calculator: http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoTireMath.dos
I also looked for wider tires than stock for my Z but they don't make anything that will fit the wheel and still stay close to factory diameter dimentions. People do like to go with 305/315 in 30 series - but they are both considerably shorter than the stock 295/35-18.
For my track setup I am going with 315/35-18 and 275/40-17 which will only upset the stagger by .25 inches from stock...

I have 305-30-18's on the rear and they are very visually shorter looking than the front 275-40-17's to the point im nowlooking to get 18" rims on the front also to correct the visual look and get a lower profile tire on the front as well.

275/40-17 is .31 inches taller than the stock 265/40-17 and the 305/30-18 is .93 inches shorter than the stock 295/35-18. basically what that means is you have upset the balance of the car by raising the front and lowering the rear.

I just put on Nitto RII"s on the Z- in 305/35 and 275/40 on stock rims- perfect fit and look, and stick like glue. Highly recommended, just not for very wet weather areas....or summer only in wet areas.

with those tire sizes you have now gone taller than stock on the front and considerably shorter than stock on the rear. overall diameter is what really counts for these things, not sidewall height - unless asthetics are the only thing you are concerned with.

Front 265-40-17 tire diameter is: 25.3
Front 275-40-17 tire diameter is: 25.7
Rear 295-35-18 tire diameter is: 26.1
Rear 305-35-18 tire diameter is: 26.4
So you can see changing both front and rear tires sizes to these sizes do not upset the balance of the car as front and back tires are both a little taller than stock by .4/.3 f/r comparing to stock tire diameters. After I lowered the car I made sure the front was lowered a little more to keep the same rocker panel differences as stock front to back.
I wasn't sure why the backs look lower profile than the front though with the Nittos, since there is only a .1 difference in diameter f/r vs stock sizes, but after going back and looking at pictures when the car was new with stock tires even those looked visually different sidewall wise.
I only run R compound tires on the street as I drive very hard on the back roads and Nitto track tires are what do me best. Tire wear on the street is of no concern for me so I run what sticks.

I don't usually mess with attempting to calculate the rolling diameter of the tire because different tire companies show significant variation between similar sizes. Instead, look up the tires' specs on tire rack and look at the revolutions/mile. This will make for a more accurate comparison... and fwiw to keep abs/traction control happy, I'd go for a similar front/rear rolling diameter ratio as stock.

Great info guys and I certainly appreciate it. Sorry for so long in getting back but I've been out of town. Now just to pick out the right tire. Looks like my best bet is to probably stay w/ stock sizes to keep the diameter very close, would like to just get a little wider and stay with a street tire.I drive a little aggressive but the Z will not be on the track. Thanks.

The Nittos ride as nice as the GY-SC- they do pick up more debri, as they are softer- but they hook like crazy - no wheelspin in 2-3 shift, hardly any in 1-2- but I am completely stock...I am not sure you can expect any tire to stick with your power, however- I am convinced the Nittos are a great compromise, but will wear very quick. Be careful in the wet- not a whole lot of tread and rain channels.....
I am set up for a track day in Dec. with 1.5 camber in the front, and 1.2 in the rear, as I understand they like lots of camber if used on the track-
