Hundreds if not thousands of posts on the Vararam.
It like most CAI's can't really have the HP boost measured on a dyno.
It has to be inferred or back calculated from track speed/time improvements.
Most report a 0.3 sec improvement in 1/4 mile times and a 3-4 mph increase in trap speeds.

40 HP is absurd. Many do report faster times but I believe it has to do more with driving skills. You tend to get better the second or third time you go to the track. I have the vararam and I definitely cant feel a .3s faster acceleration. Get the vararam... You'd be happy though

Consider a Honker
I really like mine, and it has less chance of hydrolock. Much easier to install (though not easy) and it's 50-states legal.
With tune and Honker, I saw 40 lbs.-ft and 35 HP, wheel.
I hear Hurricane is good too.

That was mostly the tune increase. Just an intake is not worth much on its own. MAYBE 10 HP at the motor.... Realistically.
Of course, if you have a stock intake with a stroker motor, cam, longtubes, etc and then you add an intake you might see something closer to a 30-40 HP increase. But not on a stock motor.

I have the vararam on my 01 and have no issue with cooling. It should not affect cooling at all. Some members like to open up this area for "additional" cooling but it also adds to more dirt in the engine compartment. But if you compare to stock - should not see any change.

Here is a link to a magaine test for the c6 vararam and they said at speeds it was around 30 hp!
("-and if you figure 10 hp for every 1 mph in the quarter mile" .... "its really adding 30 hp when the car is in motion".
Anyway you look at it - it works well and I like mine. a Dyno will only show 10 -14 hp but the SOTP at speeds is incrediable.

I do think the Honker enhanced tuning results, though.

As do all intakes that draw cooler air; methinks the biggest gains w/ filters systems aren't MORE air but BETTER air. The PCM starts pulling timing when Intake Air Temp goes up; when the vararam, Honker and others are pulling cooler air, this is less of a factor.
But then what do I know; I've only had stock, Z06 airbox, Blackwing and Honker air intake systems.

HP gains have way too many variables, I think ,to be an absolute, " you'll get xx more hp with this" mod thinking, especially with a mod that works the way this one does, by the volume of air entering the intake depending on the speed of the car. Every manufacturer will tell you how much better their product is over someone else's. Cajundude has a post on track differences before and after the Vararam install. For me, I never took the car to the track to get a definite start and finish difference, but, I can tell you that by feel, there was a big change with the Vararam, and I'm very happy I did the install. I know very few people who don't like their Vararam, but those who didn't like it went with the Honker which costs about $200 more.Want to go cheap? Go with the zip tie mod. Do a search for it, and the cost is under $1. By the way, a hood seal is amazing!! NOT!!!!
