Assuming you are talking about the accessory belt system...

The idler pulley (the one bolted to the alternator bracket next to the PS pump) is smooth.

The tensioner pulley (the one bolted to the water pump) is ribbed.

So....which one do you need?

OK so I have the ribbed one that Im replacing I guess then its the smooth one ... but I have the whole assembly for the tensioner pulley ... should the smooth (idler) pully whole assembly be replaced or just the wheel.. which is easier. (already knowning that its not an "easy" replacement.

Here's a pic:

Both pulleys are easily replaced once the belt is off, Remove the bolt, swap the pulley, reinstall the bolt. This applies to both pulleys.

From your above post, it sounds like you bought the complete tensioner, which most likely, you didn't need to do.
If you now have the complete tensioner, it is simple to replace too, remove the 2 bolts securing the tensioner, put on the new one, and tighten the 2 bolts back up.

The (smooth) idler is just a pulley, it's bolted to the alternator bracket. There is no "assembly" to possibly buy with it.

Just picked up the smooth pulley from Pep Boys.
Where do you loosen the belt, at the alternator I presume???

Never mind found it in the manual, you start at the drive belt tensioner pulley. Rotate clockwise to reduce tension on the drive belt.

Seems the squeak is pretty common, just replaced the AC tensioner and idler as well as the main tensioner pulley since it was available w/o the tensioner and all is well now.

Keep in mind that there is a second idler and tensioner on the AC circuit (behind the main serpentine belt). This is the one that was squealing on mine. Best way to determine which one is squealing is a stethoscope.
