I've got to replace the left axle shaft seal on my '05 and don't have the special tool shown in the shop manual to pull the shaft out of of the diff. (It's a u shaped adapter that attaches to a slide hammer)
How difficult is it to remove the axle shaft without the tool and can anyone that's done it offer some guidance?

grab the innermost part of the axle with your hand, it will slide out, a screwdriver will also work to 'pop' the clip, just be careful with the axle seal
