Mobil-1
Just got back from the Dealer and the service writer told me that there are rumors about a recall on Mobile-1. I’m being told that the synthetic oil gums up which tends to clog the passages in the motor. They feel that this could cause a pre mature knock .The fix would be to flush the motor and replace with non-synthetic.
Again just a rumor not official policy, I was wondering if anyone has heard anything in these lines.

Re: Mobil-1 (Rick-M)
I have not heard that. I've run M1 in my 92 K5 Blazer since new. When I went to do valve cover gaskets at 100K I was in total disbelief. Everything looked brand new! So new I had to take pictures
I run it in everything I own.
Total M1 freak :hat

Re: Mobil-1 (Rick-M)
sounds like hog wash.
Mobile 1 has been used in Corvettes for a decade or more by the factory.
And they are just now figuring out it sludges? I call :bs on who came up with that.

BWWWAHAHHAHAH that was a funny joke. Pop off your valve covers and you will. then go look at an engine with regular oil. Night and day. I wonder how many M1 recalls like there have been?!?!?!
I second what Shawn from LAPD said about dealers!!!

Re: Mobil-1 (Rick-M)
When I went to the dealer for my first oil change they told me not to use Mobil one till the engine was broken in. They were shocked when I told them it was filled at the factory with it and showed them the Mobile 1 sticker in the engine compartment. Service writers are for the most part morons, and should go back to their old jobs of "you want fries with that burger". This isn't to say there arent sharp service writers out there there are many of them, but the ones who arent seem to be in the majority. :smash:

Re: Mobil-1 (Rick-M)
I never said I agree with them and don't plan changing oil. The only thing that scares me is that they have been wrong so many times about so many things that the average is with them and someday they will be right hehehe.....

Sounds like they only stock dino oil....... :U I have used it for 20 years without a problem. Jimmy engine with 150K looked new inside when torn down. :yesnod:

I've been using Mobil 1 since it's introduction in the 70's and have never had a single problem. Engines stay very clean and wear is non existent. The stuff is so much better than dino oil it isn't even a discussion any more.

Re: Mobil-1 (Rick-M)
Just recently replaced cam and crank sprockets with timing chain in an LT1 engine with 154K miles and the inside of the timing cover was spotless. I've been using Mobil 1 in my vehicles for the last 8 years and so far so good. :D
Hard to believe that there is any truth to the rumor. :bs
Good luck.

Re: Mobil-1 (Richin Chicago)
I think that the dealer just does not stock Mobil One and I'll bet for sure he never heard of A UPF44 oil filter. He wants to sell you generic motor oil out of a stupid dirty 55 gal drum and the PF44 filter and charge you $100.00 because it is A Corvette. Most of the time they don't even jack the rear up to release all of the dirty oil and then over fill your system. Do it Yourself ! :bs

Re: Mobil-1 (Rob 99)
I have 10,000 miles on my car and have used Mobil-1 since day one. had LT headers installed recently and they had to remove the valve covers to get the things in. Looked as good as new to me. The guy is full of :bs

That guy is an idiot! The oil passages have nothing to do with knock! Also, using non-synthetic oil will void the warranty...don't do it!
Mobil 1 is one of the BEST motor oils out there! I have seen engines that used Mobil 1 with over 100K miles on them that looked brand new inside...virtually no wear on the cams, lifters, etc. Mobil 1 ROCKS!

Check out this....
http://www.mobil1.com/why/whatsit/test.jsp
Look down the page and read the specs on the Million Mile BMW engine....
---------------------->
The Million-Mile Test
Mobil also completed an amazing million-mile test in a 1990 BMW 325i. With regular oil drain intervals of 7,500 miles, as specified by BMW, this Mobil 1 test vehicle actually ran for 1,001,120 miles before the test was over. Over the first 230,000 miles, there was no measurable oil consumption. Total average oil consumption over the entire test was just one quart per 25,000 miles. The engine was then removed and torn down, with these results:
Overall engine wear was extremely light.
Cylinder bore and crankshaft measurements, on average, were within new-engine factory specs.
All engine parts were still in satisfactory operating condition.
No rings were stuck or tight and the oil screen showed no deposits.
There was virtually no sludge or significant varnish deposits.

I use M1 im my $1000 1993 Escort GT, there is no other oil for me..
