That's what my plans were at first as well. There was already something there though. Haven't looked it up yet to see what it could be. Think it's the oil temp sensor. Mine is a 1998 so it might be different then the newer ones for some reason. If anyone knows for sure, please let us know.

I say swap them then. Oil temp sensor lasts longer.

This location up front on the block is certainly more accessible than the stock spot, but is it an appropriate sensing point in oiling system?

The stock spot (top behind the intake) is AFTER the filter. I'm suspicious that this alternate spot up front is after the pump, but BEFORE the filter, after all it is right next to the pump.

If my suspicion is correct, you can't sense oil pressure here. Take the example of a plugged filter... It results in low pressure in the oil galleys, but a sensor at the pump outlet reads high.

Can anyone confirm is this point is after or before the filter?

JMHO, If you have a clogged filter you should be beat over the head, stuffed in oil drum and pushed off a cliff I've never seen a clogged filter on a regularly maintained car.

I agree, If you have a clogged filter then you either have some other major issues going on or you don't do maintenance enough.

Come on guys.... Question still stands; Is this the same point in the oiling system as stock or is it on the "wrong" side of the filter?

Does anyone have information here?

O.k. this is probably a question for tech but I do know that my oil pressure was un-changed after the move.

Default Did the relocate using front plug

Thank you so much 87Bob (from your post #367). I did the relocate yesterday, but had to order the sensor (NAPA didn't have it in stock). Worked like a dream. I put the old sensor in the front so I could drive it yesterday evening. New part came in today, 10 minute job! So nice.

Here are some pix. Notice the plug installed in the original oil pressure sender location. As for the debris, I huffed and I puffed, and still couldn't get all of it out before removing the intake. Spent 20-30 minutes cleaning after this picture was taken.

While in there, I added a longer vacuum hose. Didn't know up front the "soda straw" was smaller diameter than back of intake. No biggie. Found line that would work, and tightened up soda straw end by placing section of 3/8 fuel line over it, then clamping it.

Made extension wires 41" long and soldered/shrink wrapped everything. Works good, but I wish I had made them 42" long because I wanted to route the harness as far as possible from my exhaust. Made sure they cleared the fan belt and the steering column, and zip tied it to alternator harness. Works great.

Again, I appreciate all the contributions from everyone, and hope this little one helps.

Mike,
Your answer
It is definitely before the oil filter.

The way I see it, when pressure is in a container, it is pretty much the same all the way through. I guess there could be some friction loss through the oil galleys, but I do know there is no difference in what I see on the oil pressure gage now. Just glad to have it working again.

My .02 worth,

Got my first vette - C5 - last year. Wonder why I did not get one 20 years sooner. Best car I've ever owned. Stupid sensor pegged, have parts, have wrenches, could somebody clue me in to the intake manifold torque and and other special problems. I'm going to clean up the gunk and relocate of course.

Thanks,
Richard Marks

Hi all,
Anyone live near Henderson(or Vegas), Nevada who could help me do the C5 sensor relocate. Mine's been pegged with a bad sensor and I want to do this, but don't want to screw anything up the first time. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks
