What do you use to clean the engine bay?
I've got "crap" all over my hoses and what looks like sand all over my engine bay. What do you guys use to clean the engine bay? You guys have any idea where this stuff comes from? I NEVER drive off road- only around town and on the turnpike. Thanks

What is a performance hood seal?
I live in one of the dustiest climates in the U.S. and I'm not convinced it works. Then again, this climate may be a bad barometer.

I hose it out with a garden hose, let it dry. Then, wipe the black plastic pieces and hoses down with Mothers Back to Black. Works great for me. :chevy

I've heard mixed reviews about the hood seal. Some say it works, some say it doesn't! I figure, as little as they cost, what have you got to lose?
I also agree about the Armour All. It'll make your engine look fantastic for about the first 10 miles. Then it turns it into a big a$Z dust magnet.
I just wipe my exposed engine parts down with a damp rag from time to time.
I don't know about that "Back to Black" stuff. Might be worth a try.
Good luck,
Dave

I damp rag wipe it everytime I wash the beauty. Occasionally if some engine grime collects-kinda greasy-I spray some Windex on it and dry it using paper towels. After 25K mi., looks great. On my Autobuffs engine covers etc., I spray on some Z6 and wipe, looks brand new.

Don't use Gunk or anything caustic or you'll let yourself open for electrical problems down the road. Household cleaners like Glass Plus, Fantastic, or Simple Green (I think the best) work great. Spray them on with the engine dry, wait a few and hose them off. You can wipe hoses with Armorall to get them black again but don't spray the whole compartment. It does make dirt stick.

I have the hood seal. It does make a difference, far less dirt on the engine. I use a rag with Armorall on it, to wipe the dust off everything. :chevy

How much do the hood seals sell for? As far as cleaning the engine, I just use a damp rag. I also think since I have a Halltech Cold Air filter that its just going to get dustier.

I use the Mothers Back to Black. I think it works much better than Armor All. Doesn't seem to attrack near as much dust! :seeya

Hood seal is a pretty iffy deal - I have one, and it may help a little, but I wouldn't bother with it again. In any case, I would not let Armor All even get in the same garage with my car. The stuff is greasy and full of silicone. If you ever want to do any paint work, it is a mess to deal with. Zaino's tire stuff seems to be O.K. for all of the black parts.....
