Nice looking job there! I am sure you will get cooler air with the mod and when dry will get some good performance. I am just afraid that for us in Fl. (I see you are in Stuart) you may have just created a puddle vacume. Please let us know how it does in the rain....I know, I know...we try not to drive in the rain but down here that is darn near impossible if you drive your car. Good luck and keep us posted.

Nice job!!! I'd be really interested to see a dyno to dyno comparison to that and a honker. You've got a "baby honker" now for all intensive purposes.

Don't get me wrong, it looks very nice! I have considered the Honker as well. I really would like to hear about your rain experience when it occurs. If it doesn't suck a bunch of water it really looks like the ticket and I don't see how the honker could flow much more than that set up. It really does look professional.

That looks pretty darn good! Great work and very innovative. I would be very interested in step by step instructions if you don't mind sharing. What a great "in between" step if you are waiting or shopping for a manufactured CAI. Heck, if the performance is there, you're done shopping

Great job. I too had considered this several years ago. I believe my thought process at the time was that the angle the flipped air box would sit at wasn't an optimal fit for the rad shroud, but your execution looks excellent, so maybe I cheated myself a bit.

Nice job! I have seen this mod many years ago (5+). The only potential issues I see are:
1. Radiator heat will migrate into the inlet during slow and stop & go driving. When I did my cold air mod, I shielded the inlet with a polycarbonate "scoop". The scoop also directs cold air directly at my Halltech intake filter.
2. Occasionally, roadside "things" bounce their way up and off the lower radiator cover. Damage to the filter may occur when this happens. Some people protect their radiators with wire mesh. I did the same to protect my Halltech filter (which is $100 to replace).

that is clean and you're getting cold air,i'm in florida and i have a vararam,if i would of seen your mod before i would of done it no doubt about it,i'm not worried about water cause you shouldn't be driving in it,if i get caught in the rain and there are big puddles then i'll go around them or turn around,i've lost a car due to water before so i know what is like.

That is very inventive...someone from CALLAWAY probably thought of the same thing and decided to dress it up to validate the $500 cost...
As far as debris possibly causing damage, find some lightweight aluminum mesh screen to protect the filter...or come up with an inventive cover which allows the air intake, but not water ingestion.
Black 1/8" ABS plastic is very easily shaped...

One thing I'll add is that the honker has a completely revised air bridge. I haven't seen a flow test comparing the stock air bridge to the Honker, but given callaway's R&D, I'd be willing to say that the Honker got a completely new air bridge for a reason.

Everyone has got to admit that this simple mod has some serious performance potential and can be no worse in the rain than any other bottom feeder on the market.

Sorry guys. Craig, you are right but I did keep my Bertram at Harbortown in Ft. Pierce for years and my ex-wife is from Jenson Beach. Is that close enough? You folks have fun at Regency Square. I still love this mod. Very inventive!
