Best oil? What do the Nascar Teams use?
After countless "Whats the Best Oil" Threads on here I got to wondering what the professional race cars and race teams use in their cars. You know they can't afford an oil related breakdown costing them points in races like Nascar has..

Many use specific racing oils - 0-w20 with no additivesor detergents to 15-w50 with no additives or detergents.
some use 5-w50 with no additives or detergents. Of course they change their oil each time the car goes on to the track too.

and a bunch of parts to freshen it at least. LGM runs Redline.

Not really fair as the others have stated. I personally like AMSOIL. Any one that can gaurentee 25000 miles out of the oil, and show proof of better performance so all good in my book.

oil in racecars
What oil? Usually the oil they get for puting the decal on the car, you get an oil sponser, and the oil is free. thats what we did on the drag car. so the winner is, Free oil. thats the best kind.

I've heard from some racers that they pour the ol of there choice in their sponsers bottles or they just use plain white jugs at the track.
I like the Amsoil for my cars and trucks.

Mobil 1 in everything I own.
I bought a ZZ4 engine a few years ago for my '91 Z28. I ran nothing but Mobil 1 in it for two hard running years. Then I tore it down to upgrade the cam and heads. The engine looked BRAND NEW inside.

Since NASCAR doesn't run Vettes, you may want to check out places like, oh I don't know, corvetteracing.com and see whats in the C6-R. Check with LGM Motorsports, since Lou has had some serious success racing vettes. Thye engines and the duty called for in road racing is nothing like 500 miles of left hand turns.

I was watching a TOP FUEL team rebuild their motor between rounds and I saw one of the guys pour in 2 blue bottles of STP oil treatment (gee whiz info). The NASCAR team use very thin oil for max HP, that's why they let the oil warm up slowly i.e. "Start your engines"(a little warm up at idle), then a few laps around the track at pace car speed.

Actually, I guy I know works for a company that builds and maintains these leased motors. Recently they are using an obscure 0 wt which contains lots of moly. This seems to give a few extra hp due to wt and moly. So I asked if I should use it? --"No"
