On a C5, the only way I know of is to reset one or both of the trip odometers and the average speed to 0. Once driven, the total trip mileage and the average speed will then be captured.

The window valet from Top Down Tech will record your highest speed your car goes until you reset it.

Hold down the reset button while on one of the trip odometers and it changes that reading to the miles you’ve traveled since last starting the engine.

Its good to know the truth somethimes, but in reality, what can you get back from it? Charge him for gas? The mileage will not determine if he abused the car.

So how does this apply to the stories I hear about vehicles involved in high speed accidents, and the cars computer is used as evidence against the driver to show they were going over the speed limit?

Completely different, the SIR system has a module that captures about the last 10 - 15 seconds of history, speed, brakes applied and such. Normally, most owners cannot access the captured info.

I wish I new about these chips a few day ago. I have to drop my car off tomorrow at the shop and I am absolutely paranoid about someone else driving it. Like some lot kid or something. Just in time to be too late!!

Wow you must go to a really low class dealership that they let lot boys drive the cars. My dealer does not have kids, they use old retired men to move the cars up to the bays, out to the lot, or to bring them up to you after the work is completed. The shop foreman test drives the cars and he is 55 to 60 years of age. If it is a vette is is locked inside the service area over night never outside and during the day if there is an empty bay it will stay inside.

Well...you can always record the mileage from your odometer and check it when you get the car back!

The dealership I do go to is a big place, they can tell you one thing about who drives the car, but unless you're there, who really knows. To them it's just another car, at best, it's just another vette, just like the hundreds or thousands they have sold, no big deal. I prefer to eir on the side of caution, that's all.
