Which Optima battery
My battery died and I do not trust pep boys to give me the right one (assuming there is more than one red top)
Does anyone have a model number?
Thanks

Re: Which Optima battery (Hernan)
Hernan,
Here are the following Optima battery part numbers that will fit the C5:
Red Top: 8004-003
Yellow Top: 8014-021
Hope this helps.
Thanks!
Shawn

Re: Which Optima battery (L.A. Performance Division)
Let me know what you think is to be done with the two extra battery terminals on top of the red optima battery.
I just put mine in and although it is red on top it has two metal terminal posts sticking out of the top. I bought it for the red color but I am not sure I like the red top containing the posts?
Thanks!!!

I left the Plastic Caps on the top of the battery. Since the Optima battery is made for top or side post applications... I dont think there is much we can do with the top posts sticking up.

Re: Which Optima battery (vetterdstr)
Guys,
All new Optima batteries made within the last month no longer have those red and black plastic caps.
Johnson Controls bought out Optima Battery a few months ago and since then they have changed the label on the battery, listed different specs on the label and no longer supply those red and black plastic caps for the top posts.
If you purchase an Optima battery and the top terminals contain black and red plastic caps, the battery is not a fresh one.
Just thought this info would help all of you that are looking into purchasing an Optima.
Hernan, it was my pleasure helping you out and I didn't think anyone else would have the part number info handy.

What is the diffference between the Red Top and the Yellow top?
Which one is the best for the C5? There are different specs for the different models or at least I assumed that there were?
I have a 99 Red coupe and the red top would look cool but I really want the right thing when I change the battery.

Re: Which Optima battery (Hernan)
I bought the Yellow Top. The Yellow Top is a deep cycle battery, which can withstand repeated discharges better than an ordinary battery. It is only about $20 more than the Red Top. With all the demands the C5 puts on the battery, especially during storage, I think the Yellow Top is the better choice.

Re: Which Optima battery (vette2001c5)
I recommend the Yellow Top, personally I feel that there is no need for a Red Top in our cars. The Red provides lots of cranking amps, useful for driving a high-drain winch or starting a large diesel engine. The Yellow is deep cycle, as mentioned, and can take being completely discharged many times more than the Red. It already provides more cranking amps than stock, so starting won't be an issue.
Yellow Top in cars. Period.

This has been discussed on this board many times, get the yellow top.
I noticed you are getting a better stereo ESP. for this reason, get the yellow top, you will hear this often in the audio section, regards

Can someone tell me why you would use a Deep cycle battery (RV battery) in a Car? what are the benefits to doing this?

Re: Which Optima battery (vetterdstr)
Steve,
A red top is absolutely fine in our C5s as long as you drive them at least once a week.
For the people who drive less, the yellow top is better due to the C5's battery drain feature.
Compared to the red top, the yellow has has much larger reserve capacity and will survive many total discharge cycles where as the red top or any standard battery for that matter, will have considerable capacity loss after such a deep discharge.
I drive my Vette on regular basis, but nevertheless I opted for the yellow, merely for the additional capacity and the slightly lower internal battery impedance.
Hope this helps.
