Looking to see who is using what kind of synthetic oil in your Vette's. I currently am using Mobil-1 10w-30. What are you using? Thanks

Syntec or Mobil 1 ?
I have gone back and forth over the years and found that I got better gas mileage with Castrol Syntec 10W30, vs. Mobil 1. If price is an issue then try the BMW high performance 5W30 full synthetic for a measly $4 a qt., and it's made by Castrol! I've also tried Synquest by Pennzoil, the Valvoline and the Quaker State full synthetics. The only times I've gotten noticeably better mileage was with Castrol.
If you are getting better mileage then you are also getting less friction, and it seems to work better with the 10W30, except in the coldest months of the winter, then the thinner stuff is going to help pumpability in the cold. I'm no expert but I have tried a lot of different brands and weights of oil and the above are consistant results.

The Red Sox will be back!

If you are looking for an American made alternative, I've run a comparison of the AMSOIL Series 2000 0w30 against the highly regarded German Castrol 0w30 using another forum member's C5. The results showed the AMSOIL performed as well as the Castrol, and that both perform very well compared to that lab's universal averages for the LS1.
Metal AMSOIL (3513 miles) GC (3126 miles)
Alum 1 ppm 1 ppm (universal average 4 ppm)
Iron 5 ppm 6 ppm (universal average 14 ppm)
Copper 11 ppm 9 ppm (universal average 40 ppm)
Lead 2 ppm 2 ppm (universal average 7 ppm)
AMSOIL used TBN was 7.7, GC was 4.2.

Is Valvoline any good? A friend of a friend has a shop with a pit and can do my lowered vette, but he has to use Valvoline. So if i bring oil that isnt valvoline Im basically paying for the oil twice.

Not sure if it meets GM Standard 4718M though...

I have been using Syntec, For 14 years and 5 new gm cars.trucks
1993 Firebird lt-1, 94 Sierra pick up, 94 Z-28, 98SS Camaro, 02 Z0-6 Corvette.
Have found, 4 of these 5 would have oil useage with mobil 1. With-out hard driving.
None of the 5 would use ANY,Even with hard driving. I mean full to the top at 3-k,or Sometimes more. I try to always change oil at 3k, Not quite old school compared to Dad
who would change oil at 2k. The SS took 105,000 hard driving.Track Dyno pulls racing ANd now has 165,000 miles and runs Like new and all of these V-8's Mobil-1 was compared to Syntec, So now with all New cars for me.
I drain the Mobil-1 when I get home with the car.And Use Only
Syntec. Ive done my testing.
IMO It is truly the best.
Also there is some dyno comparo's on a website, Of all oils tested
Redline and Syntec made more power on the same engine. Only 2 oils that more power than the rest.

Other oils meet the GM 4718M as well, like Pennzoil, Castrol, etc. It's on the can -- and you can read about it in your manual.

I look beyond the brand and carefully review the label (front and back) of any oil to ensure it EXCEEDS the test requirements.
Meets may mean that it only passed the test once...
I want the comfort of knowing that the engine oil I put in my car always passes the test... or at the very least exceeds the minimum requirements.

Quote from GM :
GM gasoline engines require the use of an engine oil that has the American Petroleum Institute (API) Starburst AND states that it meets GM Standard GM 6094M (non-synthetic) or GM4718M (synthetic) and is registered by GM.
Failure to use the recommended engine oil can result in engine damage not covered by warranty.
The 3 engine synthetic oils that are registered are
1. Chevron Surpreme ( 5 and 10 W 30)
2. Mobil 1 ( 0, 5 and 10 W 30)
3. Texaco Havoline ( 5 and 10 W 30)
No other brands meet GM requirements and if they make that claim its not true until GM tests, approves and registers them.
Because of that I'd say stick with Mobil 1 its been the required engine oil since the early C4s and works just fine so why fix something that is not broke.
